Required the totally English Version of "Santa Lucia"

there's a version which has about four English lines (written by Ray
Charles?), but I've seen whispers of a 'totally' English version by Eddie
Fisher... I'm doing OAP venues, and I can't stand there singing in foreign
languages to 'em!!

Well, I have good news and bad news. The bad news is that I don't
have the English lyrics. The good news is I can tell you they were
written by Manny Curtis and Harry Akst. I was able to find the
information at the following URL under the entry for Manny Curtis:
It indicates that the English lyrics were written in 1954 and that
Eddie Fisher did have a hit with the English version. If so, he may
have recorded and released it that year because he did not hit the pop
charts with it anytime after January 1st, 1955.

I can recall singing an English adaptation of Santa Lucia over 75
years ago. We gathered in our grade school auditorium and sang a
variety of songs for about an hour, once a week. I can only remember a
couple of words but, that fact set me to looking. I couldn't find the
version I sang but, I did find this... it's long but it works!
Scroll down to Santa Lucia and you'll see that there's an English
lyrics version. Caruso worked before Ray Charles and Pat Boone. :)

Confession... I kept trying to recall those lyrics and finally
succeeded... the song was not Santa Lucia, however, the info at the
Caruso site seems to indicate that there were English lyrics prior to
Ray Charles, et al.

Long ago when I was teaching some kids to play this on the guitar I wrote my
own translation, as like your OAPs, they didn't understand Italian. It went
something like this:
Under the silver star
down on the peaceful sea
Placidly waves do flow
Prosperous winds blow.
God speed my beautiful
boat safe across the sea:
Santa Lucia
Santa Lucia.
But having just googled I see there are loads more verses that I didn't know
about, and didn't translate. Oh bother....

I think every man and his wife have translated this beautiful song.
I have other translations if you want them but none of them are the
version I remember from the 1950's.
Remembered from memory only:
Low o'er the glittering sea,
Silver light flowing.
Gently the waters come.
Soft breezes blowing.
At that point I am afraid that my memory fails me.
