I FOUGHT THE LAW (Sonny Curtis) (Artist: The Crickets, Bobby Fuller Four)

Picking rocks in the hot sun,
I fought the law and the law won. I fought the law and the law won.
I needed money cause I had none.
I fought the law and the law won. I fought the law and the law won.
I left my baby and it feels so bad, I guess my days are done.
Well, she's the best girl I've ever had,
I fought the law and the law won. I fought the law and the law won.
A-robbing people with a zip gun.
I fought the law and the law won. I fought the law and the law won.
I miss my baby and the good fun.
I fought the law and the law won. I fought the law and the law won.
I left my baby and it feels so bad, I guess my days are done.
Well, she's the best girl I've ever had,
I fought the law and the law won. I fought the law and the law won.

That's "six-gun"... count the drummer's rim-shots while Bobby's singing it.
I remember Bobby Fuller died under mysterious circumstances... does anyone
have any info on this? I liked "I Fought..." with all the jangling Buddy
Holly-like guitars and so forth, and thought there would be a lot more where
this one came from, then I heard of his death. Haven't heard anything since.

I Fought The Law
- written in 1961 by Sonny Curtis
- #9 hit for the Bobby Fuller Four in 1966
- as recorded by the Bobby Fuller Four

I'm breakin' rocks in the hot sun

I fought the law and the law won
I fought the law and the law won

I needed money 'cause I had none

I fought the law and the law won
I fought the law and the law won

I left my baby and I feel so sad
I guess my race is run
But she's the best girl I've ever had

I fought the law and the law won
I fought the law and the law won

Robbin' people with a six gun

I fought the law and the law won
I fought the law and the law won

I miss my baby and the good fun

I fought the law and the law won
I fought the law and the law won

I left my baby and I feel so sad
I guess my race is run
But she's the best girl I've ever had

I fought the law and the law won
I fought the law and the law won

He was allegedly seeing the girlfriend of a connected guy, who had him
killed at that point. He was shot in his car, in his driveway, I
believe. I think he was only 21 or 22.

fuller's death is still unsolved. he was found dead in his car in front of
his house, smelling of gasoline. there are people who suspect gang/mob
connections and others who suspect some bad apples he may have met the day
before while at a beach party with a girlfriend.

the case has been recently investigated by the "unsolved mysteries" tv
program and also possibly "america's most wanted".

Wayne G. had the truest lyrics to I Fought the Law. If you want to learn more
about the circumstances under which Bobby Fuller died, just do a simple web
search on his name and you won't believe what you'll find. He was actually
doused in gasoline and severely beaten. They say he had been dating the former
girlfriend of a mob-related guy. The coroner ruled accidental death or
suicide!
