Sweet Surrender
it doesn't mean much
it doesn't mean anything at all
the life I've left behind me
is a cold room
I've crossed the last line
from where I can't return
where every step I took in faith
betrayed me
and led me from my home
and sweet
sweet surrender
is all that I have to give
you take me in
no questions asked
you strip away the ugliness
that surrounds me
are you an angel
am I already that gone
I only hope
that I won't disappoint you
when I'm down here
on my knees
and sweet
sweet
sweet surrender
is all that I have to give
sweet
sweet
sweet surrender
is all that I have to give
and I don't understand
by the touch of your hand
I would be the one to fall
I miss the little things
oh I miss everything
it doesn't mean much
it doesn't mean anything at all
the life I left behind me
is a cold room

Thanks for the response on the the "Sweet Surrender" lyrics. I was
interested because the title is the same as one of my very favorites
songs written by John Denver in 1974. It amazes me to see two songs so
different in perspective and be titled the same. John Denver's song is
such a beautiful, positive affirmation of life and Ms. McLachlan's so
negative. (or atleast, that is how it seems to me)

John Denver's "Sweet Surrender" goes like this:

Lost and alone on some forgotten highway
Traveled by many remembered by few
Lookin' for something that I can believe in
Lookin' for something that I'd like to do with my life.

There's nothin' behind me and nothin' that ties me
To somethin' that might have been true yesterday.
Tomorrow is open and right now it seems to be more
Than enough to just be here today.
And I don't know what the future is holdin' in store
I don't know where I'm goin'; I'm not sure where I've been
There's a spirit that guides me, a light that shines for me
My life is worth the livn', I don't need to see the end.

Sweet, Sweet Surrender
Live, Live without care
Like a fish in the water
Like a bird in the air

Sweet, Sweet Surrender
Live, Live without care
Like a fish in the water
Like a bird in the air.
