I think what she says is "Take care; TCB" and TCB stands for "Take Care
of Business".

TCP? TCB? ECB?

Sigh. I don't know. Let's just ask Aretha herself, why don't we?

Simple. Think of it: what's the album producer? Time-Warner? Atlantic?
Captiol? More likely, Motown?

Then ask them!

On the Today show, Jane Pauley interviewed Aretha Franklin and asked her
about taking ECP out of Respect leaving "Rest". Aretha corrected her
and explained that she was saying take out T C B for "taking care of
business"

I have also wondered for years what she is saying, and recently thought
maybe she is quoting Elvis, and saying , not E C P , but " T C B "..
for , " taking care ( of ) business ".

Maybe there's an Aretha fan club around on the web ?

I am still working on this-it's time we got to the bottom of it.

According to the lyrics, ( it was written by Otis Redding ) , it is "
take out T C P ".

Another of life's great mysteries. When I am rich and famous, I plan
to ask Aretha just what the HELL she thinks it means.

My female vocalist claims it is the initials of Aretha's husband. Why
not? It's as good an explanation as any.
Regard,
Tom

As a total Aretha freak, BTW, I'm looking for the lyrics to "This Is The
House That Jack Built" can you help me out or maybe point me to a site
that's got it?

What exactly is "take out TCP" supposed to mean?

Have clip of me singing "respect" on my web page. Check it out.

Thanks. Theresa

Jeez, this has been hashed to death and (I thought) authoritatively answered a
long time ago here. "TCB" (takin' care of business) was a big Motown/Soul buzz
phrase in the late 60s. ( I wasn't aware that Elvis picked it up.) There was a
TV special and an album (remember vinyl?) both with that name ("TCB) that
featured a whole bunch of artists. Don't remember exactly who, but it was like
Aretha, Temptations, Supremes, Otis - those kind of people. Not exactly sure
where the acronym started, but I believe it was "Respect" that propelled it
into the limelight. She's saying "take care of TCB" or something close to
that. I was there.

Elvis may or may not have sung " T C B " , but he DID have a ring
that said " T C B " , and , I think, his jacket - I remember seeing
it somewhere ( inside his jet ? ) at Graceland .
