Anyway, I managed to track the song down to a Bing Crosby movie from the
1940's. My brother ordered the movie for her from Amazon.com for
Christmas, and she just finished watching it and emailed me to tell me that
the theme is played instrumentally throughout the movie, and Bing sings
along for maybe 10 seconds at one point. But they never actual sing the
song.
Does anyone know the words to this, or know where I can find them? Maybe
some kind of
alt.40s.showtunes or something? Thanks!
BTW, I suspect that it is a rhetorical question and is never answered.
Best regards,
Bob

Thanks. I have tracked it down yesterday to a 10" 78 RPM record on the
Decca label. Pressed in 1947, I think. "Emperor's Waltz", sung by Bing
Crosby, is on the 'B' side of "I Kiss Your Hand, Madame"
My turntable only plays 33 and 45 RPM records, but I wonder if I could rip
it to an MP3 or WAV file and speed it up from 45 to 78...
I'll probably buy it, and it won't answer the question. A practical joke
from the grave by my grandpa. In my mind I can hear him chuckling :-)
Best regards,

If you ask around, you can probably find someone near you who has a
phono that plays 78s. They might have to bring it down from the attic
and dust it off, but someone will have one. (I have one - it even
plays 16 2/3!) You could also try an antique dealer - see if they will
let you play your record on one of their machines. Or maybe try a
senior citizens center. While many seniors have modern equipment,
there may be a few who never upgraded from something they bought 40
years ago.
