I believe it is done by Peter Schilling. It's definately inspired by
David Bowie's Space Oddity, which is the original song that talks about
Major Tom. You can find the song on both the Error in the System album
and the Different Story album. Peter Schilling, I believe is originally
a German, but I believe his albums are still sold in the U.S.

I'm not the best speller in the world, so I may not be spelling the names
correctly, but the sound is correct. <GRIN>

Hope this helps

Well, It's either Space Oddity, By David Bowie, or Major Tom, by Peter
Schilling, which was out in the early 80's.
Don;'t know where to find it, but i bet it's on some compilation of 80's
stuff.

well it depends on which song you're referring to. there are two
completely different songs by two completely different people, with the
same title. the only one i can think of, however, is "major tom (coming
home)" by peter schilling, where the chorus goes

earth below us, drifting, falling
floating weightless, coming home

could this be the song you're asking about?
if so, the album is called "the different story".

Well if it's the David Bowie song, it's on his greatest hits album.

Thanks. That's the song. As soon as I read Peter Schilling, it all
came flooding back. Anyhoo, thanks a lot.

Nope, I'm positive it's not David Bowie's Space Oddity.
It's called Major Tom. Any ideas?

"Major Tom (Coming Home)" is by Peter Schilling, 1983, off
his album "Error in the System." It's also available on
volume 5 of one of those 80s compilations on CD. There is
no relation to David Bowie's "Space Oddity" other than those
two words.

A fellow named Peter Schilling did a song called "Major Tom" that followed
the same theme, 1984 or '85.

Hi both of you

Major Tom is a figure David Bowie invented. He appears on two different
albums:
Space Oddity
Scary Monsters

The two most popular songs that mention Major Tom are :

"Space Oddity" by David Bowie, found on both SPACE ODDITY and
CHANGESBOWIE

"Major Tom" by Peter Schilling. I can't remember the name of the CD.

My apologies if I've repeated a previous post.
