I think that's the title. It's sad, but it's great. The guys and girls
in the pub would like the words AND the act that recorded this beautiful
song, if any one can pleae help.

Alan, It goes under at least two names. It was recorded by "The
Browns", as "The Jimmy Brown Song". By far and away the best recording
of it was by a French group called "Les Compagna de la Chanson" (sp?) as
"The Three Bells". I don't really find it all that sad. It is about
the three times in a man's life that the church bells ring for him.
When he is born, weds and dies. Somewhere around here I have the French
record on an old 45. It was kind of crazy, how I came to have it. I
was returning home after a night of partying, about 5 o'clock in the
morning and caught the last half of the song on the car radio. After I
had slept for several hours, the first thing I did was head for the
record shop in town. Didn't have anything except the words from the
song. The clerk in the shop immediately knew what I wanted and handed
it to me. If you can't find the words anywhere else, get back to me and
I will see if I can dig the record out and transcribe the words for
you. Need to get it out and listen to it again, anyway.

I think this is what you are looking for !
It took me a long time to find out/remember it was called
"The Three Bells"

Artists; The Browns (peak Billboard position # 1 in 1959)
Originally a French tune written in 1945, it was charted at " # 14 in
1952 by Les
Compagnons de la Chanson. Variously known as "Les Trois Cloches" and
"While
the Angelus Was Ringing."
Original French words by Bert Reisfeld and Music by Jean Villard
English words added by Dick Manning

There's a village hidden deep in the valley
Among the pine trees half forlorn
And there on a sunny morning
Little Jimmy Brown was born

(bung, bung, bung, bung)
All the chapel bells were ringing in the little valley town
And the song that they were singing was for baby Jimmy Brown
Then the little congregation prayed for guidance from above
"Lead us not into temptation, bless this hour of meditation"
"Guide him with eternal love"

There's a village hidden deep in the valley
Beneath the mountains high above
And there, twenty years thereafter
Jimmy was to meet his love

(bung, bung, bung, bung)
All the chapel bells were ringing, 'twas a great day in his life
'cause the songs that they were singing was for Jimmy and his wife
Then the little congregation prayed for guidance from above
"Lead us not into temptation, bless, oh Lord this celebration"
"May their lives be filled with love"

>From the village hidden deep in the valley
One rainy morning dark and gray
A soul winged its way to heaven
Jimmy Brown had passed away

(bung, bung, bung, bung)
Just a lonely bell was ringing in the little valley town
'twas farewell that it was singing to our little Jimmy Brown
And the little congregation prayed for guidance from above
"Lead us not into temptation, may his soul find the salvation"
"Of thy great eternal love"

THE THREE BELLS

There's a village
Hidden deep in the valley

Among the pine trees half forlorn

And there, on a sunny morning

Little Jimmy Brown was born

All the chapel bells were ringing

In the little valley town

And the song that they were singing

Was for baby Jimmy Brown
Then the little congregation
Prayed for guidance from above

"Lead us not into temptation,

Bless this hour of meditation,

Guide him with eternal love"

There's a village

Hidden deep in the valley

Beneath the mountains high above
And there, twenty years thereafter
Jimmy was to meet his love

All the chapel bells were ringing,

'Twas a great day in his life
'Cause the songs that they were singing
Was for Jimmy and his wife
Then the little congregation
Prayed for guidance from above

"Lead us not into temptation,

Bless, oh Lord this celebration,

May their lives be filled with love"

From the village

Hidden deep in the valley

One rainy morning dark and gray
A soul winged its way to heaven
Jimmy Brown had passed away

Just a lonely bell was ringing,
In the little valley town
'Twas farewell that it was singing
To our little Jimmy Brown
And the little congregation
Prayed for guidance from above

"Lead us not into temptation,

May his soul find the salvation,
Of Thy great eternal love."
