Is this a Joni Mitchell song??

I keep hearing this song on the radio and I don't know the exact lyrics, but
it's something like "Don't you know it always goes that you don't know what you
got till it's gone/<something something> and put up a parking lot." It sounds
sort of like either Joni Mitchell or Sheryl Crow. Can anyone ID it?

It's Joni Mitchell and it's "Big Yellow Taxi". The <something> is, I
believe, "They paved paradise and put up a parking lot". Bob Dylan covered
it on one of his albums... was it "Self Portrait"? Somebody help me here...

Yep. it's a joni mitchell song. A sample of it is in the new janet jackson
songs from the album the velvet rope. the sample is from a song I believe is
called, the big yellow taxi written by joni mitchell. Amy Grant also covered
it. but I don't know if sheryl crow ever did.

It's "Big Yellow Taxi", and while it's likely you're hearing the Amy
Grant cover, it is indeed a classic by Joni Mitchell. I own both, and
can't gripe about either one--love 'em both! What you're hearing is
"Don't it always seem to go that you don't know what you've got 'til
it's gone, paved paradise and put up a parking lot!" Full lyrics are
easier to find on lyrics servers if you search for Amy Grant, not Joni
Mitchell.

That's "Big Yellow Taxi", by Joni Mitchell, but the track you're
probably hearing on the radio is the remake by Amy Grant, released about a
year ago.
