In 1988 I heard this song on the radio all the time, and I would like to see
if anyone knows the artist and where I might be able to find it. Thanks in
advance.

I believe it's a Neil Diamond song. Don't remember the lyrics though.

No, I think it is UB40. Ali Campbell (or his brother) wrote it. Have mercy on
me if I'm wrong!

No, No, No......I think you are thinking of 'Sweet Cherry Wine' by Neil
Diamond. Red Red Wine was done by UB40 (a white-boy reggae band).

Red Red Wine?
I thought that was by a band called UB40 - and it's a pretty good song too!

Boy is this getting tangled. There is a song that we and a couple other bands
used to do, and it was already here in the late 60s, called Red Red Wine,
although I don't know if it's the same one UB40 did.

I don't remember Sweet Cherry Wine, but I do remember "Sweet Caroline" by Neil
Diamond. Is that what you think I was thinking of?

I just re-read your post, and the word "reggae" set off a bell in my head. I
think I remember hearing the UB40 version, and yes, I'm pretty sure it is the
Neil Diamond Song.

The song was written by Neil Diamond and covered by UB40 on their
Labour of Love ( Vol. 1 ) album .

Hi Sandy,

I suspect you may be talking about "Red Red Wine" by UB40.....
I think you should be able to find it in any record store.....

Hope this helps,

The song, as has been widely suggested, was covered in 1981 by
UB40, and reached #1 in the UK chart (Cat# DEP 7). It was originally
written by Neil Diamond, but the UB40 track is available on the
following albums:
Labour of Love (LP DEP 5)
The Best of UB40, volume one (CDUBTV 1)
Hope I've been of help,

Red Red Wine is by Neil Diamond
Sweet Caroline is by Neil Diamond
Sweet Cherry Wine is by Tommy James & the Shondells
and Red Red Wine was redone by UB40

The Neil Diamond Version could be seen in his "Hot August Night " Live
album. Also include "Girl you'll be a woman soon"

You're wrong. UB40 (an Unemployment Benefit form in the UK) did a
reggaeized version. The original is by Neil Diamond.

Interestingly enough, UB40 weren't covering Neil Diamond - the version
they first heard was another reggae version by a singer named Tony Tribe,
dating from about 1969. It should still be available on one of Trojan
Records' compilations.
