The obvious song -- "Shock the Monkey", by Peter Gabriel

Rik: "I think Special Patrol Group's a stupid name for a hamster."
Vyvyan: "Ok, I'll rename him...'Hello, Cliff Richard!!'"

"La Rossa" (lyrics by Peter Hammill) Van der Graaf Generator "Still Life" 1975
Charisma Records

"Hallowed Be Thy Name" (lyrics by Peter Sinfield and Greg Lake) Emerson Lake

of "monkey".

yeah.

I'm surprised. When you asked "monkey" songs, I immediately thought of
"Shock The Monkey." One of my favorite from Peter Gabriel.

There's also "Monkey on my Back" (or something like that) from George

That's ALL I can think of though....

Didn't Peter Gabriel have a song called "Shock the Monkey"? (or was the
an album title? or both . . .?)

Also, I think Rick Springfield's "Human Touch" has a line about a
"monkey on her back".

@SONG: You Were Meant For Me

I hear the clock, it's 6am
I feel so far away from where I've been
Got my eggs, and my pancakes too
Got my maple syrup, everything but you
I break the yolks and make a smiley face
I kinda like it in my brand new place
I wipe the spots off of the mirror
Don't leave the keys in the door
Never put wet towels on the floor anymore 'cause

Dreams last so long
Even after you're gone
I know that you love me
And soon, you will see
You were meant for me
And I was meant for you

Called my momma, she was out for a walk
Consoled a cup of coffee, but it didn't wanna talk
Picked up a paper, it was more bad news
More hearts being broken or people being used
Put on my coat in the pouring rain
Saw a movie, it just wasn't the same
'Cause it was happy and I was sad
It made me miss you oh so bad

Dreams last so long
Even after you're gone
I know that you love me
And soon, you will see
You were meant for me
And I was meant for you

Go about my business, I'm doing fine
Besides, what would I say if I had you on the line
Same old story, not much to say
Hearts are broken every day

Brush my teeth and put the cap back on
I know you hate it when I leave the light on
I pick up a book, turn the sheets down
Take a deep breath and a good look around

Put on my pj's and hop into bed
I'm half alive, but I feel mostly dead
I try and tell myself it'll be all right
I just shouldn't think anymore tonight

Dreams last so long
Even after you're gone
I know that you love me
And soon you will see
You were meant for me
And I was meant for you.

The Rolling Stones/Monkey Man/Album: "Let it Bleed"

A humorous song, spoofing Mick Jagger, the Stones, blues
music (and perhaps sexual identity too). Some snippets from
memory:

"I'm a cold Italian pizza/I could use a lemon squeezer..."

"I'm a sack of broken eggs/I've always got an unmade bed"

"I hope we're not too messianic, or a trifle too satanic--we
love to play the blues!"

"Now I am just a monkey man, I'm glad you are a monkey woman
too"

I've heard that "monkey man" is some kind of blues slang for
homosexual, but I'm not sure. This is the only song where
I've heard that phrase.

Bet there aren't any other songs that contain the line "I'm a
cold Italian pizza!"

"Fever" by Aerosmith from their album, Get a Grip starts off:

I got a rip in my pants and a hole in my brand new shoes.

Also David Lee Roth has a song called "I need some sensible shoes" or
maybe it's just "sensible shoes" which might be a cover song. It's on
his A-little ain't enough album.

There is a great Grateful Dead song, "Mississippi Half-step Uptown

"Lost my boots in transit, baby, smoking pile of leather,
Nailed a retread to my feet and prayed for better weather"

Does this count? :) It is certainly an interesting reference to footwear.
