Here's what I remember
We come on the sloop John B.
My grandfather and me
Around Nassau town we did roam
Drinking all night, got into a fight
I feel so break up I want to go home
So hoist up the John B sail
See how the main sail sets
Call for the captain ashore
Let me go home, I want to go home
Please let me go home
I feel so break up, I want to go home
The first mate he got the {something}
Threw away all my {something}
Constable had to come and take him away
Sheriff .....
Why don't you leave me alone
I feel so break up I want to go home.
That's all I remember
The Beach Boys did a version of it so maybe you can find the rest of the
words there.
Hope this helps

Scott, this is not an old sea shanty, it's a lyric by Carl Sandburg. The Beach
Boys did it in '65 with slightly different lyrics, a great realization...these
are the lyrics as I remember from that Capitol release.
Sloop John B.
We come on the Sloop John B.
Your grandfather and me
Round Nassau town we did roam
Drinkin' all night
Got into a fight
I feel so broke up I want to go home.
Hoist up the John B. sails
See how the mainsail sets
Buffalo the captain ashore and let me go home
I wanna go home
I wanna go home yeah
I feel so broke up I want to go home.
The first mate he got drunk
Broke in the captain's trunk
Constable had to come and take him away
Sheriff John Stone
Why don't you leave me alone
I feel so broke up I wanna go home.
Hoist up the John B. sails
See how the mainsail sets
Buffalo the captain ashore and let me go home
I wanna go home
I wanna go home yeah
I feel so broke up I want to go home.
The captain he caught the fits
Ate up all of my grits
Then he took and he ate up all of my corn
I wanna go home
Please let me go home
This is the worst trip I've ever been on.
So hoist up the John B. sails
See how the mainsail sets
Buffalo the captain ashore and let me go home
I wanna go home
I wanna go home yeah
This is the worst trip I've ever been on.

John Stone (I think),
>Why don't you leave me alone
We come on the sloop John B
My grandfather and me
Around Nassau town we did roam
Drinking all night
Got into a fight
Well I feel so broke up
I want to go home
CHORUS
So hoist up the John B's sail
See how the mainsail sets
Call for the Captain ashore
Let me go home, let me go home
I wanna go home, yeah yeah
Well I feel so broke up
I wanna go home
The first mate he got drunk
And broke in the Cap'n's trunk
The constable had to come and take him away
Sheriff John Stone
Why don't you leave me alone, yeah yeah
Well I feel so broke up I wanna go home
CHORUS
So hoist up the John B's sail
See how the mainsail sets
Call for the Captain ashore
Let me go home, let me go home
I wanna go home, let me go home
Why don't you let me go home
(Hoist up the John B's sail)
Hoist up the John B
I feel so broke up I wanna go home
Let me go home
The poor cook he caught the fits
And threw away all my grits
And then he took and he ate up all of my corn
Let me go home
Why don't they let me go home
This is the worst trip I've ever been on
CHORUS
So hoist up the John B's sail
See how the mainsail sets
Call for the Captain ashore
Let me go home, let me go home
I wanna go home, let me go home
Why don't you let me go home

Well, here's what I remember. This is one of those traditional songs,
and the lyrics change a bit. I remember Jimmy Rogers and Beach Boys
doing it. Rogers left out the Forecook verse and changed the first
mate a bit. Here's what I remember.
The first mate he got drunk,
And broke into the Captain's trunk,
And the constable had to come and take him away.
and the next verse ...
The forecook he got the fits.
He threw away all of my grits.
Then he took and he ate up all of my corn.

Sheriff John Stone,
Why don't you leave me alone;
I feel so broke up, I wanna go home.
