Hello. I can not get this song out of my head. However, I think I
only know the melody and not really the words. At any rate, I will
give it a try. The song is a 90's alt rock song I believe. I hear it
on the local modern rock station. In my opinion it is a poppy
alternative rock song (only a few chords on the guitar part). When I
say 'poppy'', I mean punky poppy (not hardcore, but not top 40). Ok,
here is a try at what I know (well think):

"Baby come back, (a little guitar) baby come home (a little
guitar)..."

That main chorus is repeated a few times, and it is fairly up beat.
Then it ends with a slow melodic:

"Never come home..."

As I said, I have the sound in my head, but the lyrics could be
completely wrong. Baby might be maybe, come home could be come down...

Any thoughts or help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Bowling For Soup - Ohio (Come Back To Texas)

She said she needed a break
A little time to think
But then she went to Cleveland
With some guy named Leelan
That she met at the bank

There's nothing wrong with Ohio
Except the snow and the rain
I really like Drew Carey
And I'd love to see the Rock n' Rock Hall of Fame

So when your done doing whatever
And when your thru doing whoever
You know that your County will be right here waiting for
you....

Come back to Texas
It's just not the same since you went away
Before you lose your accent
And forget all about the Lonestar State
There's a seat for you at the rodeo
And I've got every slow dance saved
Besides the Mexican food sucks north of here anyway

I think I made a mistake
It's not that easy to take
She went to make a deposit
Then she cleaned out her closet
Guess I'll sit here and wait

For her to come back home (I'd wish you come back home)
It shouldn't take very long (so long, so long)
I bet she misses the sunrise
And misses the fruit flies, but I could be wrong

So when your done doing whatever
And when your thru doing whoever
You know that your County will be right here waiting for
you....

Come back to Texas
It's just not the same since you went away
I bet you missed your exit
And drove on through the Lonestar State
There's a seat for you at the rodeo
And I've got every slow dance saved
Besides the Mexican food sucks north of here anyway

Troy Aikmen wants you back
Willie Nelson wants you back
NASA wants you back
And the Bush twins want you back
Pantera wants you back
And Blue Bell wants you back

I got a premonition
I'm taking a petition
And the whole state's gonna sign!

Come back to Texas
It's just not the same since you went away
Before you lose your accent
And forget all about the Lonestar State
There's a seat for you at the rodeo
And I've got every slow dance saved

Yeah.

Thanks for the Bowling for Soup try, but not the song. Like I said,
pretty sure it was from the 90s.

There are tens of songs that closely match the criteria you've mentioned,
including songs by Duran Duran, Candlebox, Kid Rock, some dude named Tom
Eeckhout, Elvis Costello, Steve Vansak, The Church, Dada, etc. Plus, there
are hundreds of songs with titles that are variations on "come home" and
"come back" with a "baby" and/or a "never" thrown in.

Call the radio station and hum it at them. If they do play it frequently,
the DJ should know it. If you figure it out, please post it.
