Many artists have recorded this song. I have found some of them on Internet:
Ricky Shane, Julio Iglesias, Celine Dion, Paul Mauriat, Roger Whittaker,
Dalida, Demis Roussos, Pop Tops, Vicky Leandros, Art Hodes, Nocoletta,
Johnny Dorelli, Wind, Ivana Spagna, Franz Lambert and the Dreamland singers.

But who did it first, and in which year?

Does anyone know about other "Mamy blue"-recordings than these mentioned
above?

These artists have used english, french and german lyrics. If the original
song is in another language then english, could someone send it to me, or
post it in this group?

Dunno if it helps you much, but I have the Version of POP TOPS on a
CD-sampler, and this version is from 1971. Written by Hubert Giraud (sounds
french???)

It was also Stories follow up single to "Brother Louie" as "Mammy Blue".

I may be wrong here but I think the original hit version was by Joel
Dayde in 1971. Can anyone confirm?

According to my book, "Mammy Blue" was first done in 1971 by the Spanish
septet, Los Pops Tops for ABC Records. Stories did a version as a follow-up
to "Brother Louie," which was another song originally from Europe.

Did Bill Withers ever record "Mammy Blue"? I remember hearing a version in the 70s by a male that I could have sworn was Withers. Definitely not the Pop Tops or roger Whitaker covers.
