Yeah! Thatw as who I was thinking of, leadbelly! What's really cool
about this song is that it is actually supposed to be sung by a woman.
Well, considering that the house of the rising sun was a brothel and she
was consigned to live out her days there.

Too cool of a song - especially the verses no one ever remembers any
more . . .

It was also a HIT for Frijid Pink. And has been sung by andy griffith.

Personally I could easily go my entire life without ever hearing it or any
other song using its chord sequence ever again.

Eric Burdon & the Animals had the hit with it, but I think there was a
blues version out first.......

As far as I know that is a very old song, with two versions, one done by
Dolly Parton from a female's perspective and my personal favorite, the
male perspective by The Animals.

Yeah. Long before there was a gleam in their daddy's eyes.

"The House of the Rising Sun" by The Animals - '64 '72 '82 - Best position
#1
"The House of the Rising Sun" by Frijid Pink - '70 #4
"House of the Rising Sun" by Rage - '93 #41 [this song is not the same one]

Then of course we should not forget the one recorded by HOT-RS, probably the
best one ever, but not suitable for the air, that why it never reached the
charts. The words are the same as those used by the Animals, but they added
sound effects and back vocals to completely change the theme/meaning of the
song. If you've got an open mind, and have never heard there version, do
yourself a favour and listen to their recording.

The writer is listed as "Price" in the Animals label - I wonder who
that would be. Ray Price?

Wait a minute--"Bob Dylan" recorded a version of this that you can
DWNLD Lyrics to at the Bob Dylan Homepage--and!!--AND I think
they even credit him as the "Original Writer" of HOTRS..

Search-up "BOB DYLAN"..

"House..." is an OLD blues song, pre-dated Dylan and Animals by at least 30
years. Sorry I don't know the particulars. These singers/groups are listed
as writers... "adapted by..." would be more accurate.

I see your point--and perhaps that explains-at least to me anyway,--the
discrepancies
between the difference versions..i.e.--"Bob Dylans"....and "the most
well known rendition"
by my 'Mancini's Friend'--"Eric Burdon"(formerly of the Animals)..

Still,..I don't remember "adapted by" being mentioned on the "Dylan
Website"--but
perhaps this is taken for granted..and rarely-if ever--mentioned..
So,-good point...
