[Spoken:] There's an old Australian stockman lying, dying. He gets himself up
onto one elbow and 'e
turns to his mates, who are all gathered around and 'e says:
Watch me wallaby's feed, mate. Watch me wallaby's feed,
They're a dangerous breed, mate, so watch me wallaby's feed. Altogether now!
Tie me kangaroo down, sport. Tie me kangaroo down. Tie me kangaroo down,
sport. Tie me kangaroo down
Keep me cockatoo cool, Curl, keep me cockatoo cool
Ah, don't go acting the fool, Curl, just keep me cockatoo cool. Altogether
now!
Tie me kangaroo down, sport. Tie me kangaroo down. Tie me kangaroo down,
sport. Tie me kangaroo down
'N' take me koala back, Jack, take me koala back
He lives somewhere out on the track, Mac, so take me koala back. Altogether
now!
Tie me kangaroo down, sport. Tie me kangaroo down. Tie me kangaroo down,
sport. Tie me kangaroo down
Let me abos go loose, Lew. Let me abos go loose
They're of no further use, Lew, so let me abos go loose. Altogether now!
Tie me kangaroo down, sport. Tie me kangaroo down. Tie me kangaroo down,
sport. Tie me kangaroo down
And mind me platypus duck, Bill, mind me platypus duck
Ah, don't let 'im go running amok, Bill, just mind me platypus duck.
Altogether now!
Tie me kangaroo down, sport. Tie me kangaroo down. Tie me kangaroo down,
sport. Tie me kangaroo down
Play your didgeridoo, Blue, play your didgeridoo
Ah, like, keep playin' 'til I shoot thru, Blue, play your didgeridoo.
Altogether now!
Tie me kangaroo down, sport. Tie me kangaroo down. Tie me kangaroo down,
sport. Tie me kangaroo down
Tan me hide when I'm dead, Fred. Tan me hide when I'm dead
So we tanned his hide when he died, Clyde, and that's it hangin' on the shed!
Altogether now!
Tie me kangaroo down, sport. Tie me kangaroo down. Tie me kangaroo down,
sport. Tie me kangaroo down
>TIE ME KANGAROO DOWN (Robert Morris) (Artist: Rolf Harris)

>Let me abos go loose, Lew
I believe this should be:
Let me abos go loose, Bruce
Bruce is a very popular Aussie "slang" name for a guy, as is Shiela
for a woman, just as a matter of interest, and, of course, it rhymes and
trips off the tongue easier than Lew.

Gotta fess up, all. The one HeelsFans posted was likely the
transcription I had done and given her (except she got the writer
incorrect--'twas Rolf Harris himself). Tiny, you almost had me convinced
on that "Lew" thing--was scared to death that I could have made such an
egregious error. Just went back now and re-listened to a homemade tape
(which may be either the original OR a re-recording) and I'm positive it
is "Lew." Both "Lew" and the first 3 letters of "Bruce" sound extremely
similar but there's no way there's a sibilant "s" on the end.
It's funny that Aussie Tony Wright's posting leaves out this verse all
together. Maybe the version Harris did for his compatriots WAS
shorter. Anyhow, Tony, thanks for the spelling on the "wallabies"--I'd
had it as a singular wallaby's feed but yours makes more sense since
it's followed by "THEY'RE a dangerous breed."
