Does anyone remember a song that Kate Bush made as a video with Donald
Sutherland? I'm looking for the title of the song and the album.

Thanks!

I don't remember it, but using "Kate Bush" and "Donald Sutherland"
as search terms on Alta Vista generated 53 hits. Here's a quote
from the first one:

'Hounds Of Love', a No.1 album in September 1985, spawns massive
hit singles in 'Running Up That Hill' and 'Cloudbusting'. The video
for 'Cloudbusting', which features Donald Sutherland, remains one
of the most memorable pop videos ever.

If anyone's interested, the song is a paean to Wilhelm Reich, psychologist and
physiologist who built "orgone boxes" to harness and channel sexual energy.
Reich died in prison (I believe) in the 50's.

a recent article in "Lingua Franca" magazine focussed on this.

Oh i'll never forget it...
Donald Sutherland being an Einstein, and Kate Bush being his dauther. Her father is
taken away by 'men in black' (govenment officials?), and Kate understands that she
has to continue his project of cloud making. (or rain making) She runs up the hill where
the cloud machine is at, and she starts pulling all the handles to start the cloud making.
Eventually she is on sitting on the machine in the pouring rain.....
Truely an amazing video.
i've never heard the complete album, but now thinking about it, i think that 'hounds of
love' must be a fantastic eighties album

The song is based on the short story of the same name (Authors name eludes me
at present) Ms Bush actually plays the part of the inventors *son* in the
video.

Thanks, Chris, I was just about to post the same info :-) The book (not a short
story) was called "A Book Of Dreams" by Peter Reich. Here are Kate's thoughts
on the song straight from my copy of the "Hounds Of Love" issue of the Kate Bush
Fan Club newsletter (yeah, I'm a fan, can you tell?!) Great article where she
discusses each and every song, this is from the part about side one, hence the
part about it being the last song. Hope it's not too long-winded, I can see people
are interested in the song and thought I'd share. Take it away, Kate!

"The last song is called 'Cloudbusting' and this was inspired by a book that I first
found on a shelf nearly nine years ago. It was just calling me from the shelf and
when I read it I was very moved by the magic of it. It's about a special relationship
between a young son and his father and the book was written from a child's point
of view. His father is everything to him, he is the magic in his life and he teaches
him everything, teaching him to be open minded and not to build up barriers.
His father has built a machine that can make it rain; a cloudbuster and the son
and father go out together cloudbusting, they point big pipes up into the sky and
they make it rain. The song is very much taking a comparison between a yo-yo
that glowed in the dark that was given to the boy by a best friend and it was really
special to him, he loved it but his father believed in things having positive and
negative energy and that fluorescent light was a negative energy as was the
material they used to make glow in the dark toys then and his father told him that
he had to get rid of it, he wasn't allowed to keep it. But the boy, rather than throwing
it away, buried it in the garden so he would placate his father but he could also go
and dig it up occasionally and play with it. It's a parallel in some ways between how
much he loved the yo-yo and how special it was but that it was considered dangerous.
He loved his father (who was perhaps considered dangerous by some people)
and how he could bury his yo-yo and retrieve that whenever he wanted to play
with it but there's nothing he can do about his father being taken away, he is
completely helpless. But it's very much more to do with how the son does begin
to cope with the whole loneliness and pain of being without his father. It is the magic
moments of a relationship through a child's eyes but being told by a sad adult."

Wow... Thanks for the insight on the video, I remember it being played
often on one of the local stations here in Minnesota and I loved the
story telling....I however was still looking for more of an
explanation of the video and thats what so terrific about your reply TD.

With the information of the song Cloudbusting, I purchased The Whole
Story...which had the song and many of her other hits, sad thing though
the back cover is of Kate Bush on the cloudbusting machine and when you
open the cd case, NO LYRICS! and all BLANK...that's really lousy.

So I have a question regarding inside the CD liner notes of "Hounds of
Love". What did Kate Bush include? And is this cd available online
at a reasonable price from a reliable source?

Finally did Kate Bush ever make a video collection that could be
purchased? I would really like a copy of the Cloudbusting video.

Thanks!!
Marc.

Considering that's a greatest hits album, you can't possibly tell me this is a
surprise.

Just about every Kate Bush lyric you could hope to find can be found here:

The record has a plain innersleeve, same as _The Whole Story_. Or at least
that's how I got it. I don't know what the CD has.

www.cdnow.com offers it as does just about every online -- and offline -- music
store.

_The Whole Story_ was released simultaneously as an album and a video
collection. There were some other released too... one for the _Sensual World_
album which is sold at Cdnow. There's also a few other imports videos sold
there.

Strange. My "Hounds of Love" LP has a *printed* paper inner sleeve with
lyrics, credits, photo, etc. I bought it here in Canada in 1985 when it was
first released.

Mine doesn't.

Of course:

1 - I got it used and I've found plenty of used LPs where people chucked the
inner sleeve

2 - It's the US pressing.
