Thanks

Original in 1966 was by Left Banke. Remade in 1968 by The Four Tops and
again in 1986 by Southside Johnny and The Jukes.
"Walk Away Renee" by Brown/Calilli/Sansone - Recorded by The Left Banke 7/66
And when I see the sign that... points one way...
The lot we used to pass by.... every day.
Just walk away, Renee.... You won't see me follow you back home.
The empty sidewalks on by block are not the same.... You're not to blame.
From deep inside the tears that... I force to cry...
From deep inside the pain that... I chose to hide.
Just walk away, Renee... You won't see me follow you back home.
Now as the rain beats down upon my weary eyes... for me it cries.
(bridge instrumental)
Just walk away, Renee... You won't see me follow you back home.
Now the rain beats down upon my weary eyes.... for me it cries.
Your name and mine inside a heart upon the wall...
still finds a way to haunt me though they're so small.
Just walk away, Renee... You won't see me follow you back home.
The empty sidewalks on my block are not the same... you're not to blame.
Additional info on "THE LEFT BANKE" and their songs:
1. "Walk away, Renee" was about his girlfriend, Renee Fladen... as was their
other songs "She May Call You Up Tonight" and "Pretty Ballerina"
2. The original group was Michael Brown (nee Lookofski), Steve Martin (a
talented vocalist who'd just relocated to New York from Madrid, Spain),
George Cameron and Tom Finn.
I understood it was about one of the other band members' girlfriends,
not Mike Brown....??????

Whaaatt???? On what album? Is it on one of Southside's that has been
re-released on CD??? I had *no* idea. Crummy remake of "Walk Away
Renee" by Pink Lady in the late '70's, and I've got some others around
here someplace...it was the first 45 I ever bought, and I collect
versions of it; just can't remember 'em all right now...I'm amazed I
missed that by Southside, since he is and always been one of my
favorites.
Flipside of one of John Mellencamp's 12" promos also has his version of
"Pretty Ballerina".
Weird story about Mike Brown...my oldest brother's wife almost married
MB. Small world.

I wouldn't know Southside Johnny if he tripped over me and am just going
by what my reference book says. The single was Atlantic 89394 and it
debuted on 8/16/86. It only made it to # 98 and fell off the chart in
only 5 weeks. My other book says you'll find it on the "At Least We Got
Shoes" LP.
I love Orpheus..."Can't Find The Time"...GREAT song...(covered by Rose
Colored Glass in 1971) I also had no idea that Orpheus did "Walk Away
Renee"...any idea what album? It isn't on the first Orpheus LP.
Thanks,

It's on "Orpheus Ascending" - MGM 4569, which I assume is the 2nd album.
I think they only had three, the last being "Joyful". That's my favorite,
although "Ascending" has two other great songs besides WAR - "Roses" and
"She's Not There". Nothing compares to "Joyful" though, IMHO.
Happy trails,

All from memory, no guarantee of accuracy!:
As I understand it, The Left Banke (named after an area in
Paris, I think) evolved into another band called:
Stories
Who had an early 1970's hit:
"Brother Louie"
"Walk Away Renee" was also recorded by The Four Tops on
Motown, BTW.
Michael Brown departed Left Banke and formed Stories with Ian Lloyd.
Check the Rolling Stone Encyclopedia of Rock and Roll.
Happy trails,
