Song and Artist Search

[J. D. Hood]

I've searched for the name of this song and artist and have yet to find it.
The song was getting air play during the summer of 1988 and contained the
following lyrics that was sung more like a monologue. If I recall correctly
it has a "British Pop" sound to it.

Take it to the bridge,
through it overboard,
see if it can swim,
take it to the show,
No one is home and the lights are out.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I can't remember the name of the song, but it was by Squeeze. I just heard
it last Tuesday for the first time in years, or I wouldn't have thought of
it!
