This is "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood" which was
a #15 hit for the Animals in 1965.

According to Lyrics World, the song was written for them
by Bennie Benjamin, Sol Marcus, and Gloria Caldwell.

Here's the lyrics:

Baby, do you understand me now?
Sometimes I feel a little mad
But don't you know that no one alive can always be an angel
When things go wrong I feel real bad.

I'm just a soul whose intentions are good
Oh Lord, please don't let me be misunderstood

Baby, sometimes I'm so carefree
With a joy that's hard to hide
And sometimes it seems that, all I have to do is worry
And then you're bound to see my other side

I'm just a soul whose intentions are good
Oh Lord, please don't let me be misunderstood

If I seem edgy, I want you to know,
That I never mean to take it out on you
Life has its problems, and I get my share,
And that's one thing I never mean to do

'Cause I love you,
Oh,

Oh, oh, oh, baby - don't you know I'm human
I have thoughts like any other one
Sometimes I find myself, Lord, regretting
Some foolish thing, some little simple thing I've done

I'm just a soul whose intentions are good
Oh Lord, please don't let me be misunderstood
Yes, I'm just a soul whose intentions are good
Oh Lord, please don't let me be misunderstood
Yes, I'm just a soul whose intentions are good
Oh Lord, please don't let me be misunderstood

FADE
Yes, I'm just a soul whose intentions are good

This was on the top of the charts both in UK and USA in 1960's
by "The Animals" (Eric Burdon, Alan Price, Hilton Valentine, etc)

Q- Who wrote this song?
A- Benjamin, Marcus and Caldwell

The complete lyrics :
DON'T LET ME BE MISUNDERSTOOD
(Benjamin/Marcus/Caldwell)

Baby, do you understand me now

Sometimes I feel a little mad

Well don't you know that no-one alive
Can always be an angel
When things go wrong I seem to be bad

I'm just a soul who's intentions are good

Oh Lord, please don't let me be misunderstood

Baby, sometimes I'm so carefree
With a joy that's hard to hide
And sometimes it seems that

All I have to do is worry

And then you're bound to see my other side

I'm just a soul who's intentions are good

Oh Lord, please don't let me be misunderstood

If I seem edgy, I want you to know

That I never mean to take it out on you

Life has it's problems and I get my share

And that's one thing I never mean to do

'cause I love you
Oh, oh, oh, baby, don't you know I'm human
Have thoughts like any other one
Sometimes I find myself alone and regretting

Some foolish thing, some little simple thing I've done

I'm just a soul who's intentions are good
Oh Lord, please don't let me be misunderstood

I believe this song is originally sung by Nina Simone.

If you're from New York City, you may have heard the version performed by Elvis
Costello on WNEW-FM 102.7. He recorded it live @ the Heartbreak on Varick
Street for a Valentines Day party back in 1984 and it still gets considerable
airplay
all these 15 years later

Yep...it was also a (minor, I seem to remember) hit single for him in the UK
in a studio version...
