Well, how 'bout the original version by Robert Johnson.
I think some of the lyrics may have been changed in the cream version,
but i'm not sure.
Johnson himself had two versions - I include both here.

Cross Road Blues

I went down to the crossroad
fell down on my knees
I went down to the crossroad
fell down on my knees
Asked the lord above "Have mercy now
save poor Bob if you please"

Yeeooo, standin at the crossroad
tried to flag a ride
ooo ooo eee
I tried to flag a ride
Didn't nobody seem to know me babe
everybody pass me by

Standin at the crossroad babe
risin sun goin down
Standin at the crossroad babe
eee eee eee, risin sun goin down
I believe to my soul now,
Poor Bob is sinkin down

You can run, you can run
tell my friend Willie Brown
You can run, you can run
tell my friend Willie Brown
(th)'at I got the croosroad blues this mornin Lord
babe, I'm sinkin down

And I went to the crossraod momma
I looked east and west
I went to the crossraod baby
I looked east and west
Lord, I didn't have no sweet woman
ooh-well babe, in my distress

CROSSROADS - Cream
I went down to the crossroads, fell down on my knees. X2
Asked the Lord above for mercy, "Save me if you please."

I went down to the crossroads, tried to flag a ride. X2
Nobody seemed to know me, everybody passed me by.

I'm going down to Rosedale, take my rider by my side. X2
You can still barrelhouse, baby, on the riverside.

You can run, you can run, tell my friend-boy Willie Brown. X2
And I'm standing at the crossroads, believe I'm sinking down.
