Thanks.
The artist is Mary Hopkin. I can only remember bits of it. I think
there's only two verses. Someone might like to fill in the other.
Those were the days
By Mary Hopkin
Once upon a time there was a tavern
where we used to raise a glass or two
how we used to laugh away the hours
talking of the things we used to do
Those were the days, my friend
We thought they'd never end
we'd sing and dance for ever and a day
we'd live the life we choose
we'd fight and never lose
those were the days,
Oh yes, those were the days

Sung by Marianne Faithful I think
From memory I recall this much of the Miriam Hopkin song (written by Paul
McCartney) - hope this helps.
~Caro
Once upon a time there was a tavern
Where we used to raise a glass or two
Remember how we'd while away the hours
Think of all the great things we would do
Those were the days, my friend
We thought they'd never end
We'd sing and dance forever and a day
We'd live the life we choose, we'd fight and never lose
Those were the days, oh yes those were the days
La la la la la la
la la la la la la
la la la la
la la la la la la [etc]
Just tonight I stood before the tavern
Nothing seemed the way it used to be
In the glass I saw a strange reflection
Was that lonely woman really me?
Those were the days, my friend...

Faulty memory correction: it was Mary Hopkin not Miriam from her LP
"Postcard", and the first chorus goes:
>Those were the days, my friend
>We thought they'd never end
>We'd sing and dance forever and a day
>We'd live the life we choose, we'd fight and never lose
For we were young and sure to have our way
... and the second chorus is the same except the last line is:
>Those were the days, oh yes those were the days
~Caro, remembering at last (I think)
Those were the days my friend,
I thought they'd never end.
We'd sing and dance, forever and a day.
We lived the life we choose,
We'd fight and never lose.
Those were the days, oh yes those were the days.
Yours,
Andrew

The singer is Mary Hopkin. Composer is somebody named Gene Raskin, if I
remember correctly. Don't know if this is an old song or not; sounds like it
ought to be.
This was one of 3 singles released as Apple's inaugural package in 1968.
Anybody know what the other two were? Post and email.

Damn, I can't recall the other verses right now. I loved that song. Too
many years ago.

ohio
And you knew who you were then
Girls were girls and men were men
Mister we could use a man like Herbert Hoover again
Didn't have no welfare state
Everybody pulled his weight
Gee, our old LaSalle ran great
Those were the days
... "Gullible" isn't in the dictionary. Go ahead, look it up!
