JUST DROPPED IN (TO SEE WHAT CONDITION MY CONDITION WAS IN) (M. Newbury)
(Artist: The First Edition)

(Yeah, yeah, oh yeah! What condition my condition was in)
I woke up this mornin' with the sundown shinin' in
I found my mind in a brown paper bag, but then
I tripped on a cloud and fell a-eight miles high
I tore my mind on a jagged sky
I just dropped in to see what condition my condition was in
(Yeah, yeah, oh yeah! What condition my condition was in)
I pushed my soul in a deep dark hole and then I followed it in
I watched myself crawlin' out as I was a-crawlin' in
I got up so tight I couldn't unwind
I saw so much, I broke my mind
I just dropped in to see what condition my condition was in
(Yeah, yeah, oh yeah! What condition my condition was in)
Someone painted "April fool" in big black letters on a "Dead End" sign
I had my foot on the gas as I left the road and blew out my mind
Eight miles out of Memphis and I got no spare
Eight miles straight up downtown somewhere
I just dropped in to see what condition my condition was in
I said I just dropped in to see what condition my condition was in
(Yeah, yeah, oh yeah!)

Now I just HAVE to ask this... I know this is a lyrics NG but I just got to
know.

I still remember the first time I heard this song on the radio. I couldn't
believe what I was hearing, never anything like that before. As far as I can
remember (I was about 12 when this one came out)... this is the FIRST
acid-rock song I ever heard. I didn't equate it with drugs then, and
therefore I still can't, but I wouldn't argue with someone who knew better.
I can plainly see it's references to drugs or (some other out-of-body
experience), but I just remember it the way I heard it then.

Anyway... was it the FIRST acid-rock radio hit? Was there anything like it
that pre-dated it and maybe just didn't make it to AM radio in Greenwood,
SC? IE- I missed it?

Curious;
Ray Crenshaw in SC (USA)

Hey Ray, remember "White Rabbit" by Jefferson Airplane? Just a thought! I
don't know which came first.

**************
You are both casting out a huge question--as then you have to start
looking
at all the "Lyrical Context-per-meaning" and then go into"difficult
copyright
searching" to verify releases--HOWEVER!!-- a "Copyright & Release Date"
do not have a thing to do with "Authoring Date"--i.e.-"when it was
writen..."

You can start with something like-"The Amboy Dukes" and their song
*Journey to the Center of the Mind*- and migrate back in time into the
early "Rolling Stones" and some of their songs,- for instance the song
*2000 Lightyears From Home*

And ofcourse you always wind-up leaning on the fireplace
mantle-convinced
as several others there with you,-- that it must HAVE BEEN.!-
DONOVAN..!!..

".. .Electrical bananna.. .... . .
. . . ..... . ..is gonna be a sudden rage. .
... .Electrical bananna. .
.. is bound to be the very next stage.!!. ."
". .They call it. ... .Mellow Yellow.. . . ."

Hi DEFI!!! Thank you for your post. I bookmarked your "Top 40" webbsite,
but it doesn't work. It did originally. I only have the page to e-mail
lyrics. Can you post it one more time? I think DejaNews deletes it because
they feel it is commercial. I don't know. That was a great site. Thank
you.
