Hello everyone. There's an obscure song called, I believe,
"Don't You Wanna Love Me Too?" that I really like, but I
don't know who sings it. The lyrics have nursery rhymes
in the verses...

"Mary had a little lamb
It's fleece was white as snow
And everywhere that Mary went
The lamb was sure to go
Now isn't that just like me ( what you say, honey? ) -
Following you around?
You know that I love you, yeah, I love you
I just can't put you down...

( ah, tell me 'bout it, honey...)
Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall
Humpty Dumpty had a great fall
And all the kings horses, and all the king's men
Couldn't put him back again
Now isn't that just like me ( what you say, baby? )
Cracking up over you?
You know that I love you, yeah, I love you
Nothing else I can do...

Hey diddle diddle, the cat and the fiddle
And the cow jumped over the moon
The little dog laughed to see such sport
And the dish ran away with the spoon
Now isn't that just like me ( what you say, honey? )
Trying to run away with you?
You know that I love you, yeah, I love you
Don't you wanna love me too?...

And then they repeat "don't you wanna love me too?" until
the end of the song, getting quieter ( Singer : "Take it
easy..." ) and gradually louder ( Singer : "Shake it up,
now..." ). I first heard the song in an early Martin
Scorsese film entitled "Who's That Knocking At My Door?",
and have been wondering about it ever since. It totally
rocks, and I'm amazed that it isn't an easily identifiable
classic ( cos I've never heard it elsewhere ). It sounds
like it comes from the early 60's, like 1964-65. Can anyone
out there help me identify the band or performer?

Thanks in advance,
- Keith

AIN'T THAT JUST LIKE ME
- written by Earl "Speedo" Carroll and Billy Guy of The Coasters
- recorded by The Hollies (on their first 45) and The Searchers
(on the Pye album "Sugar And Spice" - Dec. 1963).
- this transcription is from The Searchers' recording which is also
available on the CD "The Searchers Greatest Hits" - Rhino R2 75773.

Mary had a little lamb

Its fleece was white as snow

And everywhere that Mary went
The lamb was sure to go

Now ain't that
Just like me (what you say baby)
Followin' you around
You know that I love you (yeah)
I love you (come on baby)

I just can't put you down

Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall

Humpty Dumpty had a great fall

All the kings horses and all the kings men
They couldn't put him back again

Now ain't that
Just like me (what you say baby)
Crackin' up over you
You know that I love you (yeah)
I love you (come on baby)
Nothin' else I can do
Well shake it up now

------ guitar solo ------

Hey Diddle Diddle the cat and the fiddle
The cow jumped over the moon
The little cat came out the best of all

And the dish ran away with the spoon

Now ain't that
Just like me (what you say baby)
Tryin' to run away with you
You know that I love you (yeah)
I love you (come on baby)
Don't you wanna love me too (take it easy)
Don't you wanna love me too (take it easy)
Don't you wanna love me too (take it easy)
Don't you wanna love me too (come on, come on now)
Don't you wanna love me too (let me hear ya)
Don't you wanna love me too (take it easy baby)
Don't you wanna love me too (all right now)
Don't you wanna love me too (tell me 'bout it)
Don't you wanna love me too (come on now)
Don't you wanna love me too (tell me 'bout it)
Don't you wanna love me too (shake it up now)
Don't you wanna love me too (it's all right now)
Don't you wanna love me too (shake it up now)
Don't you wanna love me too (waah-hooo!)
Don't you wanna love me too (shake it up now)
Don't you wanna love me too (come on baby)

> Strong possiblity I'm wrong about this, but back in 1960, Chubby Checker
recorded a novelty song called 'The Party'. The verses were various
nursery rhymes and Chubby imitated late fifties icons like Fats Domino,
The Coasters, Elvis and even the Chipmunks. It was his first hit,
pre-dating The twist by 2 months. Sound familiar?

This sounds like "Just Like Me" by Paul Revere & the Raiders, 1966.
At least the nursery rhyme part. Now I'll have to check it out when I
get home tonight.

Now where was my head when I came up with that one? Please no easy
jokes on a straight line like that. I didn't even have to get home
before the inaccuracy of my response hit me...Completely different
song, sililar title--the knowledgeable Wayne Garvin got it (along with
the lyrics) earlier in this thread:

"AIN'T THAT JUST LIKE ME
- written by Earl "Speedo" Carroll and Billy Guy of The Coasters
- recorded by The Hollies (on their first 45) and The Searchers
(on the Pye album "Sugar And Spice" - Dec. 1963).

How embarrassing.

Try the Dave Clark 5. I believe they even performed it live on the Ed
Sullivan Show which you might catch in reruns on TVLAND.
