Looking for upbeat pop songs about "change." Along the lines of Bowie
(Changes) and so on. Goal is to play the songs during breaks at a
company training class about its new computer system. The more familiar
the songs, the more they'll help lighten the mood. (Lots of upset
people in this class!)

thanks

How 'bout "Change" by Tears for Fears

It was popular in the 80's. When you hear it you'll recognize it. It has
a wonderful sound.

Hi, Dave-
An interesting request! However, you may want to carefully read the lyrics
to the songs you use. Your goal is to get people used to the idea of change
in a positive way... but the lyrics of Bowie's "Changes" includes lines like
"I watch the ripples change their size/but never leave the pool of warm
impermance/ and even though I thought I had it made/it seems the taste was
not so sweet". Not to mention the chorus itself: "Turn and face the strange
changes/don't tell me to grow up and out of it" or "Where's your shame/
you've left us up to our necks in it" etc. My point is this may not be the
message you're trying to get across, especially if lines are taken out of
context!

But if you decide to go with it: try "Some Change" by Boz Scaggs.

It's a good album. I can say that because I produced it (Chris Squire)

While it doesn't have the word change in the title, how about "Turn, Turn,
Turn" by the Byrds.

Change (Knight) 1981
People talking and they're saying that you're leaving
You're so unhappy with the way that you've been living
We always wish for money.
We always wish for fame.
We think we have the answers.
Some things ain't ever gonna change (change)
It doesn't matter who you are
It's all the same (change).
What's in your heart will never change
Look in the mirror and you see how you've been taken
Ooh, you won't surrender and now your heart is breaking
(repeat)
Do you remember when you got your lucky break
You're looking back now and it seems like a mistake

There is a couple of songs from the british band Magna Carta:

- "That was yesterday"
You said goodbye to finery
and the friends, you used to say,
were with you 'til the end of time
but that was yesterday

- "Times of change"
Can't you see fading dreams of yesterday
You were free, running from reality

See them at http://www.magnac.com/

The SUNDAYS have a song on their latest CD called "I Can't Wait". Here
is the lyric, taken from: http://www.huan.com/sundays/

I CAN'T WAIT

lying awake dead of night and eyes that never close
flowers decay - a still life calls for a change

I can't wait
forever

miles away dead of night and it's quiet as the grave
when there's more in your head than you find in your life
calls for a change

I can't wait
forever
and the days and the hours and the years keep turning in my mind
I've been waiting forever

I haven't seen any Beatles songs mentioned so far, which is odd since
many of them seem to be good in that situation. For example:

Here Comes the Sun
Getting Better
A Little Help From My Friends

(Ok, so maybe not that many...)
