There was a novelty song I LOVE (or maybe LIKE) ONIONS...

>2. Sandy (NOT the one from Grease!) or Sandra maybe?

There are 3 different SANDY songs that might fit: by Larry Hall in
1960; Dion in 1963; Ronny and the Daytonas in 1966. No SANDRA songs
in the top 40.

I Love Onions

I don't like snails, or toads, or frogs or strange things
living under logs
But, mmm, I love onions.
I don't like dancin' with crazy Ted, he's always jumpin' on
my head,
But, mmm, I love onions.
Onions, onions, la la la. Onions, onions, ha ha ha.
Root toot doodle-ee-oot doot doo doot.
Onions, onions, la la la. Onions, onions, ha ha ha.
Root toot doodle-ee-oot doot doo doot.
I don't like rain, or snow, or hail, or Moby Dick (the great
white whale),
But, mmm, I love onions.
I don't like shoes that pinch your toes, or people who
squirt you with a garden hose,
But, mmm, I love onions.
Onions, onions, la la la. Onions, onions, ha ha ha.
Root toot doodle-ee-oot doot doo doot.
Onions, onions, la la la. Onions, onions, ha ha ha.
Root toot doodle-ee-oot doot doo doot. Yeah!
The onion is a tuberous vegetable and is a member of the
genus stinkus delicioso.
It was highly prized by the ancient Egyptian pharaohs, and
their friends and cousins-a.
They cause watering of the eyes and rubifaction of the skin,
but it is very, very tasty.
Ha, ha.
Onions, onions, la la la. Onions, onions, ha ha ha.
Root toot doodle-ee-oot doot doo doot.
Onions, onions, la la la. Onions, onions, ha ha ha.
Root toot doodle-ee-oot doot doo doot.
How vewwy, vewwy cwude!

She says that is not the one...

It said in the song something about racoon coats, washboards, but I love
onions... I'm thinking it may be older than the 50's, since it mentions racoon
coats...

Thanks for posting the lyrics. I already have them, but his NG needs a
little dementia now and then.

P.S. I read somewhere that Susan used to sing background on Lou's songs. I'm
not convinced, but if it's true, I wonder if he played the kazoo on
"Onions."

Don't think the onions fit in this one but that fool Roger Miller did
one as an LP cut called "Good Old Days" which said, in part:

Rah-rah, rumble seats and runnin' boards
Them was the good old days

and then later

Them was the days when a guy was the cat's pajamas if he had himself a
raccoon coat
Rooty-toot-tooty and a razzmatazz
Sit down you're rockin' the boat

Why must I love you so much?
Sandy, I long for your touch

A better luck the next time Sandy
I gotta tell ya that we're through
A find a guy who's always handy
A listen girl I'm leavin you

A dum dadida dum dum dadida dida
Dum dadida dum dum da dida dida
A dum dadida dum dum dadida dida
Dum dadida dum dum dadida dida

I love a girl around the corner
Just found out that she's no good
I left her, didn't even want her
But I'd crawl back if I could

Why must I love you so much?
Sandy, I long for your touch
I never thought you'd put me down
I can't believe that you're untrue
And now the new is out around town
Yeah, what eles can I do?

Whoa ooooo dumdidala dumdidala

Oh it's worth this pain
I can't explain, Oh,and all those tears
I cry for you,(wop,wop,wop,wop,wop,wop
A better luck the next time Sandy
I've gotta tell you that we're through
A find a guy who's always handy
Listen girl I'm leavin you

Why must I love you so much?
Sandy, I long for your touch
I never thought you would put me down
Can't believe that you're untrue
And now the news is out around town
Sandy babe what can I do?

Dum da dida dum dum da dida dida
Dida dida dum dum da dida dida
