Does anyone know the title and singer of the song that has this phrase? Or know of
a database where I could get this info? Thanks. I'd hum a few bars but I don't
think you'd hear me. :)

...regards, John

Excerpts from netnews.alt.music.lyrics: 13-May-96 I only have eyes for
you by JOHN KA...@MINDLINK.BC.CA

It sounds like Art Garfunkel, "I Only Have Eyes for You" which was a hit
in 1975.

Don't know all the lyrics, but some of them are ...

Are the stars out tonight
I don't know if it's cloudy or bright
Cause I only have eyes for you.

The moon may be high
But I can't see a thing in the sky
Cause I only have eyes for you

I don't know if we're in a garden
Or on a crowded avenue
...

I Only Have Eyes For You
(The Flamingos 1959)

My love must be a kind of blind love
I can't see anyone but you
(3x) Sha bop sha bop

Are the stars out tonight
I don't know if it's cloudy or bright

I only have eyes for you dear

The moon may be high
But I can't see a thing in the sky

I only have eyes for you

Chorus

I don't know if we're in a garden
Or on a crowded avenue

You are here and so am I
Maybe millions of people go by
But they all dissappear from view
And I only have eyes for you

There was a version of this song back in 1959 by The Flamingos. That
version, brought back to light in 1973 with the movie "American Graffiti",
was one of the main influences in Art Garfunkle's remake in 1975. Actually,
the song was originally recorded first in 1934 by somebody named Ben Selvin,
and was a #2 hit on whatever they called charts back then!

ONLY HAVE EYES FOR YOU

My love must be a kind of blind love,
I can't see anyone but you.

Du wop, shu wop
Du wop, shu wop
Du wop, shu wop
Du wop, shu wop

Are the stars out tonight?
I don't know if it's cloudy or bright.
I only have eyes for you, dear.

The moon may be high,
But I can't see a thing in the sky.
I only have eyes, for you.

I don't know if we're in a garden,
Or on a crowded avenue.

You are here and so am I,
Maybe millions of people go by.
But they all disappear, from view,
And I only have eyes, for you.

This song goes back at least to the 50's; some rock historian probably
knows it better then me, but it was the Penguins or somebody that
started with a P I think. It's been remade a couple dozen times at
least. I have an arrangement of it my band does in D if anyone is
interested.

The song is actually called I Only Have Eyes For You. I know several
artists have recorded it, but the only one I can name off the top of my
head is Art Garfunkel, on one of his solo albums. I think Smoky Robinson
might have - or someone with a similar voice (at least, that's what's
playing through my head right now - maybe I need more coffee...).

Hope this helps.
Cheers
Kathy

Dear John (do I hear a sax solo? Never mind.),
If my semi-reliable photographic memory is tuned in to the
correct page of sheet music, "I Only Have Eyes For You" was
written in 1929 by Harry Warren and Al Dubin. It has been
recorded countless times since. Notable recordings of the song
include The Platters in the 1950s, and by Art Garfunkel in
1975.

I ONLY HAVE EYES FOR YOU
Words and Music by Harry Warren and Al Dubin

My love must be a kind of blind love

I can't see anyone but you.

Are the stars out tonight?

I don't know if it's cloudy or bright

I only have eyes for you, dear.

The moon may be high
But I can't see a thing in the sky

For I only have eyes for you.

I don't know if we're in a garden
Or on a crowded avenue,
You...

Garfunkel's version was based on the arrangement used in the 1959
recording by the Flamingos (he took out the "sh'bop sh'bop"s and added a
string section). I've been told that the song actually goes back to a
1930's musical, but I haven't heard any pre-1959 renditions.

Harry Warren. It was introduced in the movie "Dames" by Dick
Powell and Ruby Keeler. The song was popularized on records by
Eddy Duchin and His Orchestra. Other records were by the
Flamingos (1959), the Lettermen (1966), Jerry Butler (1972), and
Art Garfunkel (1975).

That is the name of the song and it is on the older ART GARFUNKEL's
ALBUMS.
