Still no luck in finding the name & artist for this obscure mid to late '60's
pop-rock song. All I remember is a simple 6-note guitar riff and the following
lines:
"I can't understand,
she walked out on me and . . ."
Then,
". . .and she acts like we never have met."
Anyone?

Maybe this song?

I don't believe you - Bob Dylan
from the album "Another Side of Bob Dylan".

First verse:

I can't understand she let go off my hand
and left me here facing the wall.
I'd sure like to know why she did go
but I can't get close to her at all.
Though we kissed in the wild blazing night time
she said she would never forget.
But now morning is clear, it's like I'm not here,
she acts like we never had met.

2nd verse

It's only to me like some mystery,
it could even be like a myth.
But it's hard to think on, that she's the same one
that last night I was with.
>From darkness dreams are deserted
Am I still dreaming yet
I wish she'd unlock her voice once and talk
'stead of acting like we never met.

3rd verse

If she ain't feeling well, then why don't she tell
instead of turning her back to my face.
Without any doubt she seems too far out
for me to return to or chase
Her skirt it swayed as the guitar played,
her mouth was watery and wet,
But now something is changed, for she ain't the same,
she just acts like we never had met.

4th verse

If I didn't have to guess I'd gladly confess
to anything I might have tried.
If I was with her too long, or done something wrong,
I wish she'd tell me what it is I'll run and hide.
Tough the night ran swirling and whirling,
I remember her whispering yet
But evidently she don't, evidently she won't,
She acts like we never had met.

5th verse

I'm leaving today, I'll be on my way,
of this I can't say very much.
But if you want me to, I can be just like you,
and pretend that we never had touched.
And if anybody asks me, is it easy to forget?
I say it's easily done, just pick anyone
and pretend that you never had met.

well what comes to mind for me is Dylan
I Don't Beleive You (She Acts Like We Never Have Met)
from Another Side of Bob Dylan

I cant' understand She Let go of my hand
and left me here facing the wall...
...But now mornings clear
its like I ain't here
she just acts like we never have met

Is this it? If so...

I DON'T BELIEVE YOU
(She Acts Like We Never Have Met)
(Words and Music by Bob Dylan)
1964, 1967 Warner Bros. Inc
Renewed 1992 Special Rider Music

I can't understand,
She let go of my hand
An' left me here facing the wall.
I'd sure like t' know
Why she did go,
But I can't get close t' her at all.
Though we kissed through the wild blazing nighttime,
She said she would never forget.
But now mornin's clear,
It's like I ain't here,
She just acts like we never have met.

It's all new t' me,
Like some mystery,
It could even be like a myth.
Yet it's hard t' think on,
That she's the same one
That last night I was with.
From darkness, dreams're deserted,
Am I still dreamin' yet?

I wish she'd unlock

Her voice once an' talk,
'Stead of acting like we never have met.

If she ain't feelin' well,
Then why don't she tell
'Stead of turnin' her back t' my face?
Without any doubt,
She seems too far out
For me t' return t' her chase.
Though the night ran swirling an' whirling,
I remember her whispering yet.
But evidently she don't
An' evidently she won't,
She just acts like we never have met.

If I didn't have t' guess,
I'd gladly confess
T' anything I might've tried.
If I was with 'er too long
Or have done something wrong,
I wish she'd tell me what it is, I'll run an' hide.
Though her skirt it swayed as a guitar played,
Her mouth was watery and wet.
But now something has changed
For she ain't the same,
She just acts like we never have met.

I'm leavin' today,

I'll be on my way

Of this I can't say very much.

But if you want me to,
I can be just like you

An' pretend that we never have touched.
An' if anybody asks me, "Is it easy to forget?"
I'll say, "It's easily done,
You just pick anyone,
An' pretend that you never have met!"

Thanks, that's the song!
But not the artist.
Although Dylan evidently did the original, it was covered by someone else at
the time. So I'm half way there.
Thanks for your help!

It was also covered by Ian and Sylvia in the late 60's. On the same
album as "The Lovin' Sound". Was that it?

From the "For what it's worth" department: Not that there is any truly
"CORRECT" answer, but the folks who are rabid (not avid) collectors over
in the 50's and 60's NG's consider the following to be verities:

"Cover" means a version of a song brought out at NEARLY THE SAME TIME so
as to "cover up" or block the original release's sales. From my
research back in the 50's, I found as many as 7 different artists'
versions of a given tune all in the Top 20 at the same time. A
different version done much, much later is a "re-make." Again, that's
just what THEY think--'tis perfectly permissable to hold other ideas.

Hi Ronald,--You,Wayne, and the rest have "a Great Web Page"-and
are "Adept Musical Statistisions"-
HOW-EVER!--
There is another Term which You Failed to Mention--"COPY".. .

"Copy" is Another Term used in the Biz to-"BOTH" releases
i.e.-"New--& Old"-which became so popular in useage around the
late "60s,--that it "REPLACED ENTIRELY"..the use of the term"Cover"
"in Reference to" a Currently released song being"Cloned by Others".

HenceForth-"INDUSTRY WIDE!"--The Accepted Term &-"CORRECT TERM!!"-
for "ALL SONGS REMIXED,REMODELED, & REMADE"--"IS... .C-O-V-E-R-E-D.. ."
Yes!..
....And So--Giovanni, Kelpi, and Sue Harris,-ARE "1000% CORRECT" in
using the Term--"COVERED.. . "

People in the Biz Know this as-"THE ACCEPTED TAG"-as it is considered
that the reference-"Copy"-relates to the moniker-"Copy-Cats"-which makes
a "DEROGATORY COMMENT" when pointed at an Artist.
Unless You want to insult someone--"You Say--"Covered"..

And Like "Robert Blake" used to say as-"BERRETTA"-
"......Dat's da-Name a'dat Tune!....". .
