Doesn't "That Smell" by Lynyrd Skynyrd have the line "you got a monkey
on your back"? Not exactly a wedding song, either.

I know da POIFECT song for this occasion--one "Aba Daba Honeymoon" done
in 1951 by Debby Reynolds and Carleton Carpenter!! I don't have the
lyrics personally but my friend, HeelsFans, does. By cc of this
message, I say to her "Hey, Elizabeth--help this nice lady out by

Bare Naked Ladies "If I had a million dollars" use the line "If I had a
million dollars
I'd buy you a Monkey. Haven't you always wanted a Monkey."

On Heart's debut album Dreamboat Annie is a song called "Sing Child Sing"
which
uses the term "Funky Monkey".

Tom T. Hall, a country singer from the seventy's mostly has a song called
"The Monkey that became President"

Hope this helps,

I also Suggest Barenaked Ladies, both versions are worth the listen,
the live version & the Gordon version. Also Bush-"Monkey" from
Sixteen Stone, and I also believe there's a song called "Monkey
Wrench" by the Foo Fighters.

I believe Aerosmith had a song called "Monkey on my Back" on Pump, but

Then, there's plenty of songs with "monkey" in the lyrics

Green Jelly's "House Me Teenage Rave" comes to mind ("Show me that
monkey you got there!... Yeah, say hi to the monkey! The monkey likes
you... Does the monkey bite? No, he won't bite as long as you're
nice to him..."

And I think Primus has a song with the line "If I had my druthers, I'd
screw a chimpanzee" or something....

Probably NOT the most appropriate thing for a wedding, but many of us grew
up with...
Happy birthday to you,
happy birthday to you,

it's not so easy to sing but....

Shock The Monkey by peter gabriel

Shock the monkey to live
Shock the monkey to live

Cover me when I run
Cover me through the fire
Something knocked me out' the trees
Now I'm on my knees
Cover me, darling please
Monkey, monkey, monkey
Don't you know when you're going to shock the monkey

Fox the fox
Rat the rat
You can ape the ape
I know about that
There is one thing you must be sure of
I can't take any more
Darling, don't you monkey with the monkey
Monkey, monkey, monkey
Don't you know you're going to shock the monkey

Wheels keep turning
Something's burning
Don't like it but I guess I'm learning

Shock! - watch the monkey get hurt, monkey

Cover me, when I sleep
Cover me, when I breathe
You throw your pearls before the swine
Make the monkey blind
Cover me, darling please
Monkey, monkey, monkey
Don't you know you're going to shock the monkey

Too much at stake
Ground beneath me shake
And the news is breaking

Shock! - watch the monkey get hurt, monkey

Shock the monkey
Shock the monkey
Shock the monkey to life

another song
Rolling Stones
Let It Bleed

Monkey Man

I'm a fleabit peanut monkey
All my friends are junkies
That's not really true
I'm a cold Italian pizza
I could use a lemon squeezer
Would you do

Well, I've been bit and I've been tossed around
By every she-rat in this town
Have you, babe

Well, I'm just a monkey man
I'm glad you are a monkey woman too

I was bitten by a boar
I was gouged and I was gored
But I pulled on through
Yes, I am a sack of broken eggs
I always have an unmade bed
Don't you

Well, I hope we're not too messianic
Or a trifle too satanic
We love to play the blues

Well, I'm just a monkey man
I'm glad you are a monkey woman too, babe

I'm a monkey
I'm a monkey man
Momma momma momma monkey

On HBO last night I watched _Subway Stories_. On
one of the stories a girl's mother is dying and she can't
get to the hospital before her mother passes away so
she sings an old gospel hymn to her over the phone.
Mikhaela (sp?) Jackson also sang this same song
in the classic movie _Imitation of Life_.

I'm not sure, but I believe the name of the song is
_I'm Going Home_.

Can someone point my in the direction of how to find
the lyrics or sheet music for this song?

Dang it!! I knew I should have saved that file wherein several other
folks and I discussed the history of this song!! What I DO remember is
this---the music comes from a part of Anton Dvorak's New World Symphony
and he wrote it after returning to Europe having visited the US at a
time when slavery was prevalent. The words were added later and they
represent a slave's longing to die and go to heaven and be freed of his
chains. I have heard it sung by the great black "basso profundo" Paul
Robeson and it think the exact title is just "Goin' Home." I would
visit a "Christian Bookstore" and scrounge around in the gospel hymnals.
My white friend knows it as "Massa Dear" so it may be listed that way,
too. Hope this helps.

Bananarama sang about a monkey. The covered the single. Don't know the
name though.
It went something like
......the line broke,
the monkey got choked,
and they all went to heaven in a little rowing boat.
clap, clap
clap your hands.........

I resubscribed to this ng this morning looking for a monkey song, so
hopefully someone can help. My girlfriend keeps singing part of a song
that goes "hello, hello Mr. Monkey". She says it's from the early 80's,
but doesn't know anything else about it. Does anyone know the title and
artist?

I haven't seen anyone mention "Brass Monkey" by the Beastie Boys.

There's also a Belly song, called "Puberty" that contains the line, "when
you spin on your head like a monkey, I can't see you."

I missed out on the earlier posts in here, but don't know if
anybody has yet mentioned "King of Hollywood" by the Eagles, from
their "The Long Run" album:

He's just another power junkie
He's just another silk-scarf monkey

"Fat Man and Dancing Girl" by Suzanne Vega.

"Monkey in the middle, is doing that tune
I don't want to hear it, get rid of him soon
Monkey in the middle, keeps doing that trick
I don't want to see it, get rid of it quick."

I went to the animal fair
Ther birds and the bees were there
The big babboon, by the light of the moon
was combing his long dark hair.

The monkey he got drunk
And sat on the elephants trunk
The elephant sneezed
and went to his knees

and that was the end of the Monk
the monk the monk.
