I have all of his CDs. I got to see him play once in the 70s and got to
shake his hand once. I feel a connection to the whole band because when they
plane crashed my dad was the first coast guard cutter on the scene of the
crash. How come he spelled his name so weird, Lynyrd instead of Leonard? Was
his last name Skynyrd actually spelled that way or did he make it up. that
was a great gimmick I guess because everybody remembers his name so well.

Lynyrd Skynyrd got their name from their coach when they were in school.
His name was leonard skinner and one night at a gig of theirs they
decided to call themselves "We are Leonard Skinner" and the kids liked
it cause they all knew the coach. Over the years it changed to Lynyrd
Skynyrd "to protect the guilty" lol. Least that's the way the article I
read has it. **Alan**

i'm a really huge fan too. so huge, in fact, that if i see any rare songs or demos of theirs, i just have GOT to download it.

sometimes, it never works, though. like there's this post here: https://groups.google.com/forum/#!activity/alt.music.lynyrd-skynyrd/HibbnduSWoIJ/alt.music.lynyrd-skynyrd/GDKCeBQFncY/HibbnduSWoIJ

he's got recordings of them doing "taxman", "born on the bayou", "uneasy rider", "cottonmouth country (i think john lee's tape is different from the one we all know of)", etc. and i asked him to upload the stuff as music files through sendspace.com & send me the link to download them. ted selke, a former black crowes bass guitarist, was a good friend of mine online, who introduced sendspace to me & sent me his audio/video recordings in that exact same process.

however, he never did so. damn! i really wanna hear them.
