Has Luis Miguel ever had vocal training? I saw that Celine Dion did because she
blew out her voice. Could this happen to Luis Miguel although he sang since he
was 12.

You know, another thing that I worry about... I have often seen
him stand between 2 trumpets, or some kind of horns, with them
both coming right into his head from both sides. I don't know,
but I know people who are hard of hearing because they played
their stereos too loud, & I can't help but think, "Luis, don't
do that!"
Never had the problem before, but since I found Luis's
music, I now have to wonder if I will be one of those people
who become hard of hearing from playing my stereo too loud!
Only the whole world wouldn't hang themselves if my hearing
was affected! Actually, if I were to completely loose my
singing voice, the whole world might start sending little
gifts back & forth in celebration! - Sandy

That's a good question. I've often wondered what kind of training he got or
perhaps is still getting, because in case you don't know, you can never get
enough vocal training when you're a singer. Even the best, Placido Domingo
and Luciano Pavarotti still refer back to their coaches once in a while to
make sure they're still in line. Singing is a very complicated thing (being a
singer myself I definetely know) and straining, damaging, ruining, blowing out
your voice or developing nodules is a possibility for everyone. Nodules are
calice-like things that form on your vocal chords and prevents good sound from
coming out. This stuff occurs usually from lack of care, and maintaing good,
strong technique, like support from the diaphgram, keeping your chords sealed,
using your resonators and stuff like that. But it even happens to those who
are cautious and are at least trying to maintain good technique. I guess it's
like anything else. Like in dance, you might get by without being solid on
your technique for a while, but then with the passing of years it'll catch up
to you and you'll find out that you are now damaged and hurt in some way. But
anyway, I'm curious as to what kind of technique Luis Miguel has developed or
learned to use, because one can't deny the fact that the boy can sing!!!
And the fact that he gives soooo many concerts night after night and sounds
good all the time has to mean he has his technique and is using it. Otherwise
he wouldn't have lasted this long. His voice would've been long gone given the
fact that he started his carreer at the age of 10. I don't know what he does,
but he's doing it well. Unfortunately, there's always the possibility of one
developing nodules or damaging the vocal chords in some other way even if you
do have technique. The vocal chords are unbelievably delicate, they're like
thin pieces of paper. Maria Callas (a GREAT opera singer, now passed away)
damaged her vocal chords but fortunately recovered. And she was an excellent
opera singer, and opera singers (the really good ones anyway) have really good
technique. They have to, remember that they must fill huge theaters and
supercede the big orchestra with their voices and without the help of a
microphone. So let's all pray that nothing like that will ever happen to Luis
Miguel's beautiful voice and that he'll be able to keep singing deliciously
forever. Never underestimate the power of prayer! Hope that sort of
answered your question, I know it was kind of a long answer :-)
I'll be out of touch for a while...I'm going to Florida!!! And I must say,
reading all this stuff and news from the newsgroup will be the only thing I'll
miss. I'm so grateful I accidentaly found this newgroup, in April I think it
was. I really want to thank everyone who writes and supplies such great info
and comments on our beloved Luis Miguel. Somehow, the fact that we're all
uniting because of LuisMi makes me feel close in a way to you all, like good
friends with a strong, common bond: our love and admiration for Luis Miguel!
Thank you LuisMi fans and friends * -Melissa

Thanks for the interesting info about singing. I, too, have wondered about
Luismi's training. Hope we can learn more about it.

I'm pretty sure Luis hasn't really had formal Voice lessons. He is a
natural. But I'm sure a voice coach has helped him in strengthening his
chords from getting laryngitis. Heck! I get laryngitis the day after one of
his concerts, from singing along with him from the audience! I think vocal
chords are like an athlete, the more you use it, the stronger it gets. Use
it, or lose it! Thus, when he get's ready for his tours, I'm sure he
prepares a few weeks or even up to a month before HIS world marathon

In article <356792...@mail.idt.net>,

You know you see those kids driving(see? I mean feel!) with booming music,
well I roll down my window and start blasting Luis! My husband teases me and
says he knows I am coming down the street because he can hear Luis. I am with
you in the singing dept. Sandy., but that doesn't stop me from singing loud
and proud in the car!! My son tells me he can't wait for the day my voice
gives out!!

I'm the same way. I enjoy riding with all my windows down
and blasting Luis (and Strunz & Farah). Who said that just
the rockers and rappers should be heard? I can't complain
on my hearing yet.

I myself, have probably gone a bit deaf from 13 of LM's concerts since '93.
I wonder what LUIS MIGUEL would sound like from one of the boom-type
teenager car stereos? I bet awesome! -Sylvia

My son and I were at the San Jose concert, and we left with ringing ears! How
does he do it night after night?

He wears "ear plugs" to hear himself singing. When he is singing the
music from the band could comfuse him, in order to hear himself louder
than the band he wears ear plugs. If the music is to load he may not
know if he is singing well or not. With the ear plugs on he is doing an
"inner" testing. If you watch him singing you can tell that uses ear
plug to sing "complicated" songs, songs that need special tones or
difficult themes.
Now even Enrique Iglesias wears them, I think he can put them somewhere
else, that guy doesn't need ear plugs he can't sing ,period. To me
Enrique Iglesias is an insult to the musical world, a big marketing
operation, I hope I am not offending anyone , is just my personal
opinion.

Actually he doesn't just hear himself in the ear plugs, but everything ....but
it's not distorted...he can hear all the instruments and even the back-ups and
that way he can even mix and decide how to blend in his voice. He is contantly
singing as if it were for the first time so he wants to hear it exactly as it
is happening and he could not acheive that perfect sound from just listening
from the stage. He has said this in interviews.

The old way was to have huge monitor speakers pointed back at the
performers, so they could hear. Since the regular speakers are all
pointed
at the audience, the performers couldn't hear from the regular
speakers. But, that doesn't really do the job when you move around
on stage alot, or if there is lots of SCREAMING going on...and you
know what a perfectionist he is. - Sandra/Sandy
