That's a good question. I've often wondered what kind of training he got or
perhaps is still getting, because in case you don't know, you can never get
enough vocal training when you're a singer. Even the best, Placido Domingo
and Luciano Pavarotti still refer back to their coaches once in a while to
make sure they're still in line. Singing is a very complicated thing (being a
singer myself I definetely know) and straining, damaging, ruining, blowing out
your voice or developing nodules is a possibility for everyone. Nodules are
calice-like things that form on your vocal chords and prevents good sound from
coming out. This stuff occurs usually from lack of care, and maintaing good,
strong technique, like support from the diaphgram, keeping your chords sealed,
using your resonators and stuff like that. But it even happens to those who
are cautious and are at least trying to maintain good technique. I guess it's
like anything else. Like in dance, you might get by without being solid on
your technique for a while, but then with the passing of years it'll catch up
to you and you'll find out that you are now damaged and hurt in some way. But
anyway, I'm curious as to what kind of technique Luis Miguel has developed or
learned to use, because one can't deny the fact that the boy can sing!!!
And the fact that he gives soooo many concerts night after night and sounds
good all the time has to mean he has his technique and is using it. Otherwise
he wouldn't have lasted this long. His voice would've been long gone given the
fact that he started his carreer at the age of 10. I don't know what he does,
but he's doing it well. Unfortunately, there's always the possibility of one
developing nodules or damaging the vocal chords in some other way even if you
do have technique. The vocal chords are unbelievably delicate, they're like
thin pieces of paper. Maria Callas (a GREAT opera singer, now passed away)
damaged her vocal chords but fortunately recovered. And she was an excellent
opera singer, and opera singers (the really good ones anyway) have really good
technique. They have to, remember that they must fill huge theaters and
supercede the big orchestra with their voices and without the help of a
microphone. So let's all pray that nothing like that will ever happen to Luis
Miguel's beautiful voice and that he'll be able to keep singing deliciously
forever. Never underestimate the power of prayer! Hope that sort of
answered your question, I know it was kind of a long answer :-)
I'll be out of touch for a while...I'm going to Florida!!! And I must say,
reading all this stuff and news from the newsgroup will be the only thing I'll
miss. I'm so grateful I accidentaly found this newgroup, in April I think it
was. I really want to thank everyone who writes and supplies such great info
and comments on our beloved Luis Miguel. Somehow, the fact that we're all
uniting because of LuisMi makes me feel close in a way to you all, like good
friends with a strong, common bond: our love and admiration for Luis Miguel!
Thank you LuisMi fans and friends * -Melissa
