Hi,

I heard that Sarah McLachlan is bisexual, and I was wondering if when they
were on the Lilith Fair tour she made out or did more with Lisa Loeb? I'm a
big fan of both singers, and I'd love to see them make a movie together
where they kiss each other.

She has had lots of opportunity with strong, pretty, creative,
intelligent bi and lesbian women and if she had gone all the
way with one would I bet be open about it. She has said that
she has kissed a few women (including Courtney Love and a
bartender in Chicago) but hasn't gone any further than that,
and I believe her. So I would be surprised if a bisexual
woman nanny formed a threesome with Sarah and Ash, e.g.

And high tide and low tide don't meet.

(Sarah's former dog Tyde ate her marijuana brownies
once and he was High Tyde for a day [groan, I know]).

But maybe I'm wrong, maybe in the privacy of their
showers Sarah has covered Lisa and/or Lisa has
covered Sarah, or maybe they opened for each other,
or had a double Bill. (But Jewel is a better
finger-picker.)

Regarding the thread on alt.music.alternative.female
a while ago about sexy GLasses, I forget what Lisa
looks like... OK I looked at her web page and she
looks like a sexy private eye type. So anyway for
me some women look sexier in glasses than not (Lisa
Loeb, Newfoundland singer/songwriter Rhiannon Thomas
[who is however on my just friends list], a bartender
I saw at Plaza Bowl last Friday night, a woman who
was there who was probably 35 looking 27, like Sarah)
and for some it has a neutral effect and for some
it has a slight minus effect that can be compensated
for by other things (plus of course the thing about
near-sighted glasses is that you can take them off
the woman up close and then she has to get up close
to see you and may see fine detail better up close).
However I think I'm slightly less attractive in glasses
than contacts and would be at a woman's mercy without
either I suppose.

So as a Sarah McLachlan fan, what Lisa Loeb CD should
I get first?

Why do you assume that? That's something personal she wouldn't necessarily
talk about.
FWIW, I did see her on mtv with an earing in her right ear only once, a few
years ago.

When did she say this? Things might've changed since then.

Maybe, but it wouldn't necessarily have to be a threesome, depending how
open their relationship is. That's not something they'd likely talk about
in public, since they'd get a lot of criticism from stuffed shirts and
conservatives.

Mmm. I like your vivid imagination.

I wouldn't be too sure about that. According to Lisa's bio, she learned how
finger pick really good from another girl when she was a teen in summer
camp.

I've never heard of her before. Does she have any albums?

I can tell you Lisa Loeb looks just as sexy without glasses as she does with
them on.

> So as a Sarah McLachlan fan, what Lisa Loeb CD should

If you're not familiar with her music, "Tails" would be a good one start
on. That's her first, and has a couple of hits she actually had, including
"Stay" and "Do You Sleep?". Some of the songs are a little edgy, which I
like, but "Hurricane" has some nice instrument background music on it.

Her second album, "Firecracker", is a little more low-key and melancholy,
but it's good.

Her latest one is "Hello Lisa", which is basically a rerelease of "Cake and
Pie" since she changed record labels because Interscope sucked and expected
her albums to sell without even promoting them. There's a couple of songs
on it I don't like, but there's also a few really good songs which show
she's progressed musically. Kind of a mixed bag, in my opinion.

Okay, so who do you all think would win in a "finger-picking" contest, Lisa
or Jewel?

(You can interpret this as music/guitar related, or anything you want.)

Well, she's fairly open about causes she believes in
and I think if she was bi she would lend her voice to
support other non-straight people.

Oh, those ears (her long hair is OK but I'd like her ears
to be exposed occasionally!) But anyway that might mean
she's a gypsy at heart.

Yeah, you are right, from my readings on soc.sexuality.general
(which I'm not on right now) some women get a stronger sexual
fire after age 30 and may become more experimental then or
after age 35, and she liked Holly's shoulders too I think. :-)

No, there are lots of configurations possible, and
maybe they have a special guest artist every week.

But they are both head-liners so maybe they aren't compatible.
However maybe they have done some cow-riting (Far Side/Hindu ref.).

Also the first syllables of Lilith and Sarah combine to give
Lisa, and the last woman...

>> (But Jewel is a better finger-picker.)

I have some mineralogy experience but not in a while.
(But I did hear Jewel in Gastown Music Hall in Vancouver
in I think 1995, and she is fairly hot and is on my
long list of women who could have me if they wanted,
i.e. she could map diamond to I am on DD)

>I wouldn't be too sure about that. According to Lisa's bio, she learned how

Sarah wore a thumb ring on her Brothers McMullen picture I think
and has written a more introspective feminist version of
Under My Thumb by The Rolling Stones but it didn't make
it on to the upcoming CD.

>I've never heard of her before. Does she have any albums?

On my web page http://www.nfld.com/~dalton/nf.html I have
her ranked in the top ten of Newfoundland women pop/rock
singers but she is only 25 and I think has been in a band
only for a couple of years and keeps improving every time
I hear her. I guess she does slightly spacy/breathy
female voice with a bit of a Newfoundland accent fronting
fairly interesting alternative rock instrumental arrangements.
She was in a band called The Co-Stars (with no web site
but a google search for Co-Stars Newfoundland I think turns
up one site with samples, I have it on my on-campus computer
and may post it on Monday) for I think two years where she
shared songwriting and lead singing with a zany high-pitched
screamer guy named Danny. But Danny recently left the
group and the remaining ex-Co-Stars have got a new bass player
and are now calling themselves Coast Guard (they wanted
Post-Cards but it was taken). However they are now just
doing Rhiannon's material so they only have enough for one
set so far (they opened for Persona last night but I didn't
go since I had been out three nights this week already)
but should be back up to two sets soon (so they would still
need an opening band) and then to three sets. I heard
Rhiannon say they may move to Montreal or Toronto after a
while.

But anyway some other Newfoundland pop/rock women are
Liz Pickard (of Lizband), the voice of liquid night/wild night Atlantic,
maybe like Ella fronting a hard rock band, http://www.lizband.com
Pamela Morgan softer but powerful seabird lilt, also Atlantic voice,
does some trad but on solo CDs more original pop/folk with celtic
influences, http://www.pamelamorgan.ca
Damhnait Doyle (latest single was I think Another California Song),
I forget her web page but it is probably dav-net.com
Kim Stockwood (country/Newfoundland tinted pop/rock, Patsy influenced)
Erin Best (of Rasa) some similarities to Natalie Merchant but with a
Newfoundland touch, and unique, http://www.rasa.ca
Tanya Alexander (of Shy Mary) haven't heard her in a while, bluesy earthy rock
Colleen Power, great pub rocker singer/songwriter, http://www.colleenpower.com,
new CD out fairly soon I think, does 90% English, 10% French
Toni Greene, wide range countryjazz voice, haven't heard her in a while
Kathy Phippard, orginal keyboard/voice pop influenced by blues, Tori, Sarah,...
Jackie Sullivan, soft folk/pop maybe somewhat similar to early Jewel,
Tara McLean but with Newfoundland/Irish touch,
http://www.jackiesullivan.com
Natalie Nivera, acid country tinged acoustic folk when solo, but must
have moved away because I haven't seen her in a while
Rhiannon Thomas (see above, but keeps improving so I may move her up soon)
The Ennis Sisters, celtic/country/folk/pop
Natalie Noseworthy, good at rock but lately has been doing a gig singing
tunes from the 30s and may have acted as Patsy Cline (as did Erin),
played drums in Live Girlz, may get back to her own stuff soon
Raquel Hoekman, did jazz with Desafinado, alt rock with Glitch, but moved away
Sheri Ryan, folk/pop songwriter, now based in Halifax
Amelia (Amy) Curran, solo or with The SenseAmelia Project, now Halifax based,
very good songwriter, moody singer
Andrea (Tiger) Monroe
Kyla Tilley
Terri Lynn Eddy, young blues/rock voice with potential, haven't heard her
live yet though
Cherie Pyne (of the Peepholes)
Jenny Gear (jazzy folk/pop, doesn't write, is a contestant on Canadian Idol)
Kelly Anne Evans (of Billy and the Bruisers), I have just heard one song
featuring her on the radio a good while ago and haven't heard her
live yet but she is also a contestant on Canadian Idol
Christa Borden, haven't heard her yet but she won the national Popstars contest
Dawn Trainor-Thompson, folk/pop, good songwriter
and there a few more very good women singers who just do folk, such as
Anita Best, Vonnie Baron, Jean Hewson, Phyllis Morrissey, Maura Hagan,
Joy Norman, Michelle Myrick, Michelle Brophy, and more, plus some
who do just blues and/or jazz such as Mary Barry and Lori Cooper

Also there are lots of good guys as well though I am slightly biased
towards women. Some such include Ron Hynes (http://www.hynesite.org),
Dave Panting (ex-of Rawlins Cross),
Jodi Richardson (ex-of Thomas Trio and The Red Albino,
ex-of Fur Packed Action, now solo), Crush (Corey Tetford and
Paul Lambe and others), Brothers in Stereo (Chris and Andrew
LeDrew), Barry Canning, Saddle Sores, Gearbox, Hero Gets Girl,
Roundelay, Silverseed, Bucket Truck, Dog Meat Barbecue,
Darryl Cooper, Mark Green, Denis Parker, celtic (with
Beatles and rockabilly influences) rockers The Punters,
celtic/pop faves Great Big Sea, celtic folkies The Navigators,
The Irish Descendants, The Fables, Masterless Men, Crowd
of Bold Sharemen, Eight Track Favourites, Arthur Capelin,
Derm English, Trimmed Naval Beef, Marguerita's Calling, Persona,
Skank, The Instigators, The Discounts, Jim Fidler, Muldow,
Siochana, Dungarvan, Shanty, Jim Joyce, Terry Rielly,
Jim Bellows, Saddle Sores, Lady Luck and The Smoking Guns,
Hot Nuts, Mark Bragg http://www.markbragg.com (lost CBC
Great Canadian Music Dream national final to Alberta fab4
Painting Daisies, t[w]o 'ell (LL) and S[&]M fans might like him),
Bung, Ched, Eddy Stevens, Sean Panting Inc. (SP ex-of Drive), Geoff
Panting (ex-of Rawlins Cross), loads more, I guess see my web
page for details, which I should have said right aways instead
of typing all this in on a hot Saturday afternoon/evening. :-)

>I can tell you Lisa Loeb looks just as sexy without glasses as she does with

Wow, you saw her without glasses! But I thought that would be like
superwoman without her cape, or that she only takes them off in the
shower or in bed. And does she do La Bamba? :-) Uh oh, she might
have some wolf in her.

OK, when I next check out the seedy (CD) side of town I'll probably
pick one up. I think I did see one video of hers on MuchMoreMusic
(which I guess is closer to VH1 and MuchMusic is closer to MTV
in style) a year or two ago and was reasonably impressed but forget
which one it was, and she hasn't enslaved me with live performance
yet.

even more than she already does (minus the other)

So are any Lilith Fair women getting married in Toronto
soon?

Wait, but on that lyric page it says
"I just can't find no open ground"
and I always thought the version on their Dear Madonna CD says
"a balance can't find no open ground"

many muses

Well, her ear-loebs affect me slightly more than most, though,
but not as much as her voice.

But on s.s.g. that seemed to only apply to some women, and
some who never liked sex/orgasms sometimes cut their husbands
off from sex, and some gave up sex after menopause (whereas
some others said they actually became even more into sex
after menopause). Also some women are more into sex during
pregancy and after the birth slack off on it for a while,
but that wasn't true for others. Also some women with
stressful careers may find less time for sex (but of course
it is good for stress release). And maybe I liked Holly's
(and Sarah's) bare shoulders better than Sarah did, overall.

I listened to Jewel's Spirit again last night and it was
good and somewhat spiritual and I too am waiting for
the lightning (in several ways). But S=3J for now.

Also lately I've just been repeating myself a lot, with a
touch of broken english and schoolboy humour, and I may
give it a rest for a while. Now of course if I was working
with any of these or other women I wouldn't be making
sexual jokes since that would be sexual harassment and
I am a feminist. But in the distant past I have had some indications
that Sarah has liked some of my humour, but even she might
be a little put off by too many sexual groaners, and
Lisa Loeb and Jewel might not have as [weir, goo]d a sense of
humour as Sarah, and also lately I've just been doodling
and haven't been particularly innovative. So I apologize
to Sarah, Lisa and Jewel. I also have pulled off a
number of newsgroups for now in order to get some Ph.D.
work done (so that I can play a bit if I have a waning
crescent high starting July 21 or just after) but will
stay on alt.music.s-mclachlan but will try to be serious
for the next while (until the waning crescent high starts).

But two parting semi-playful rejoinders:

As a roadie for Lilith Fair they were one day leaving without me
so I had to say "I'm on my way; and I must flag the lass train down"
misquoted from Bill Bourne and Shannon Johnson's song Baggins
http://www.tolkien-music.com/songs/bourne1.html

Also which song did Cole Porter channel from Helen of Troy?

So she might like a newF every day, plus she keeps trying to
get me to shave every day.

But seriously Ash is younger and fitter than me and has
better rhythm and a better singing voice so Sarah
will probably stick with him and if they were near me
I probably would give up on her altogether (e.g. like
Liz and Mike and Rhiannon and Jimmy and Pamela and Andre
but not Colleen quite yet) but for now she is still a long
shot who I still lust after a bit but I also lust after other
women too.

But today on the way in the V notch between my J and K
fingers ached again (as it has often lately) and my
L finger throbbed a bit but my S finger (on my hand)
hasn't throbbed lately. I wonder if Jewel's middle
names are Elizabeth Roberta, and what sort of church
is the church of Cher. :-) But if Jewel is reading
my stuff I'd rather she ask Sarah for the best bits
rather than sampling at random, especially 1996 to 1999
or even doing a http://groups.google.com search for
author:David author:Dalton Jewel
or maybe
author:David author:Dalton geop.ubc.ca OR nfld.com Jewel
(which I'm not going to do myself right now since I have
some academic work to do and then have to help my brother put
up some moldings at 3 p.m. or so, and anyway I may have mentioned
Jewel more on the FTE list than newsgroups back in 1995, and
maybe will check it later, but you all read about Milla's
Princess Cruises joke which I related to Jewel going
from Alaska to California and stopping in Vancouver)
