It said that he's now separated/divorced from his 4th wife! How could she
leave him at a time like this?????????
Also, I thought Gord only married once in the '60s, to a Swedish woman I
believe.
Who are the other two wives? And 6 children? I thought he only had 3.

He has been married only twice. His first wife, Brita, in April 1963;
they had 2 children, Fred and Ingrid. They divorced in 1973. He has a
son in California, Galen Magee, but I don't know who the mother is.
Then he had a long relationship with Cathy Coonley, Eric, in the very
late 70s, early 80s but broke up over his drinking (which he quit in
1982.) He married Elizabeth Moon in 1989 and they have Miles and
Meredith.

Uhhhh . . . in fairness to Elizabeth, Sam, marriage is a two-way
street.
You and I will never know all the nuances and details of why they split,
but
I do think it is unfair to at least one party in that former marriage to
make a statement like "How could she leave him at a time like this",
given that we DON'T know the details.

Correction accepted, for my part, if true - I thought the "Cathy"
Gord had the long term relationship with, and wrote "Sundown" about was
the same girl that offed John Belushi. Maybe he had a long-term
relationship with Cathy Coonley, but also was in a realtionship with
Cathy Smith at one time . . ?

And to infer conclusions is to assume. And everyone knows what whta the
letters comprising the word assume denote, making as ass of u and me.
And while I'm perfectly willing (and apparently able!) to handle this
condition, to speculate about someone we all hold in heigh esteem seems
to me to be, well, low. And beneath us all. I must confess, if it
turned out that Gord had been married 50 times or fathered 20 kids it
still wouldn't change my appreciation of his music. In fact, I really
don't care about his personal life, at least when I'm in my musical
mode, listening to songs, thinking about the genius behind them, tryingn
to find some verbal or musical thread that I can hang my own hat on.
It's got nothing to do with the art.
So, if you guys want to speculate, wonder, obsess over, fixate on this
stuff, knock your socks off. I'm not interested. The music is there,
it's sitting there, for anyone to hear, for anyone to comment on. If
the artist has been abducted by aliens or married a circus performer, or
even been discovered to have an affinity for sheep is totally
immaterial. Get over it. It's his life. If you must obsess on it, at
least separate it from the art. Because the songs stand alone.

If he has been married 70 times, divorced 71 times, had 87 intimate
relationships, or even biblically known barnyard animals, please,

Nothing is foolproof to a sufficiently talented fool.
I won't get into sparring with you, Sam. Examine your question.
Examine my remarks. Think about it. There is the concept of "firing
for effect." That is, making a point by exaggeration. Did I quote?
Did I atribute any particular remark to any previous post?
But, hey, if you want to argue with me, take it off line and email me.
Let's not clutter up the newsgroup with it. However, I'm usually pretty
precise in my use of language and my analysis. But if you want to go at

I won't pretend to speak for the newsgroup. Just for myself. I'm not
owed an apology by Ed.
Neither am I.

Me neither. I agree with ya, Ed. Always have. But knowing I was in the
minority, I just never said anything because I knew it would turn into a
thread like this one!
Love and Peace to all!
~Ronnie~
Ronnie. What?!!! You agreed with me and never said anything?!!!
Ronnie!!!!!!!! Aaarrrrggghhhh! Hey, geez, umm, I can use the support
just like anyone else. I mean, hey, I'm not so proud as to disdain
praise or anything! <lol> On the other hand, I sometimes allow my
idiocy to come forward and I deserve to be rebuked when I do. Most
times I'll fess up and apologize, especially when it's readily apparent
to me that I need to do that. But there are those times where my mouth
unknowingly gets ahead of my brain and I appreciate being notified of
it. And then there are those gray areas where I'm, doing my "Ordinary
Man" thing, stuck in the middle and need reassurance. So, please, feel
free to reassure me. ;-)
And if Sam is still listening, a dialogue is always available to you

very amenable to engaging you either way.

Tristan is really easy, he slept with me every night. And I was just
lying there! Oh. Hang on. Ok. I never got that whole "lie, lay, lain"
thing down. So, like did I "lain" down with Tristan? Or did I "lay"
down with him? Ummm, did I "lie down" with him? Wait! Maybe I "laid"
down! Oh, listen, I gotta tell ya, this is my most horrible grammatic
failure. I honestly don't know. I'd ask Sharman (she of the Masters in
English Lit) but I'm pretty sure she doesn't know either. And she's got
a few other things on her plate these days so I'm not gonna bother here, ok?
And the whole guitar thing, well, Lord! All I did was try to buy a
package of strings. It was YOUR buddy at Gryphon who insisted that I
had to buy the guitar too!!!! Fer cryin' out loud, Derek! I mean, I
just flew out to see you, not spend thousands of dollars for a
ten-dollar package of strings!!!! Wuzzup wid dat? Although, I must say,
Willie was extremely cordial. I didn't even notice when he ran my AMEX
card through the card reader. Didn't feel a thing! Dang, he was really
gentle!

Wow...can't believe this...and I make an appearance here after a very
long time...but to really take to heart anything that is mentioned in
any tabloid tripe is nothing more than believing that Granny Jones
had a hearty breakfast with an Alien from the far side of the Veil
Nebula! When I heard Gord may not be able to sing again..I sat and
cried and was really shook up...I don't do that very often...only for
those I truly care very much about.Of course my wife, she thought I
was losing it,she wouldn't understand,she's from Malaysia..but,she
loves Gord's music..her fav---"In My Fashion" but being Bi-Polar,and
having Anxiety Disorder,etc..I am pretty sensitive to things that are
very important to me.I won't even attempt to speculate, guess,or
anything of the kind..Just not my business...just as it was not my
business what went on with Clinton;) But I do believe there were
alot from what I read...that was talking on this subject..just human
nature..not as disrespect...but their own way of trying to sort out
the info that was placed in front of them...or to defend Gord, which
is very noble of them.I don't see any apology is needed from anyone
at all, well except for Ed...he should have clarified he was refering
to Madonna...LOL
I think the most important thing,is Gord getting well..and getting
back to his work..because I truly believe deep in my heart that
he will be able to sing again...I will pray for that. And Gord...if
you are reading,we all love you and hope you recover soon, you
are a fighter, and and inspiration to us all..God Bless You my
