"Travel with me if you choose
Into a land of notions
Through the ruins of yesteryear
Set yer mind in motion
Be beside me win or lose
I will not forsake thee
I must do, so must you
Now will you go with me"

Okay, now that you've just sung that brit of Gord inside your
head, let me funnel my thoughts a brit more productively! I
can't help but to think back over the past year since the release
of Songbook---easily the most exciting year of my life with its
ups and downs unfolding on what seemed an almost daily basis.
How fondly I recall the energy here in the NG as well in Rik's
chat (http://chat.cjb.net/gordonlightfootchat <-----Tues & Fri
9PM EST and Sun.2PM EST, for the uninitiated, yes, please drop
in--okay, okay, so it's a commercial plug!) in the weeks leading
up to the that magical day, already a year ago, yet still so
fresh in my mind. The NG was buzzing before, during, and after
that day, with all of us sharing how deeply moved we were by the
quality of the sound, the packaging, the genius of it all.

During one of those chats in that first week, I suggested that we
all listen in sync to the same disc---despite my apprehensions at
being thought a "loon" of sorts, it turned out that doing so
brought us all great pleasure and a feeling of being together.
At least in that room, it seemed to fuel the growing Massey
fever, and in the end, all of the regular room visitors did turn
up in Toronto. We were all becoming dear friends! A year
ago---feels like yesterday and forever ago, all at once!

After a couple of chats listening in sync, I did something quite
out of character. That sound was so rich that whilst I was
reveling in the production of "Same Old Loverman", I asked one of
my chat buddies to dance! It was a wonderful feeling, shocked as
I was at myself, but that bass was calling. I do remember
mentioning it to my family when they asked how chat had been---oh
my Gord, did I get strange looks! A brit of fun amongst friends.
Later, of course, I did have to question my own sanity a brit,
dancing with someone I couldn't see, had never seen or heard or
touched?!? As long as I could take my Songbook along, I would
not have minded being relegated to the loony bin!

Isn't life strange (okay, some of you could take that as a
Moodies plug)? Next Friday, June 23rd, I shall marry my friend,
that "Same Old Loverman" I danced with exactly a year ago! The
wedding was initially planned for the 25th, but a bump in the
road forced a change to the 23rd---I then realiSed that John,
across the pond, had first danced with Susan-the-loon on 23 June
99!

So, I just had to take a brit of time to share this with all of
you, you whose prayers and positive thoughts have helped John
(and me) through the most difficult time of his life. We
appreciate all of you so very much! John has made remarkable
prOgress (<---that's how the brits pronounce it!) in recovering
from his stroke. He's getting around the house independentlyj,
takes a cane when he's out-on-the-town and has been very busy in
the past six weeks since I've seen him in getting ready for the
big day! Keep praying, thinking positive thoughts for that left
hand---eventually we'll get it back on the keyboard "properly"
(<----another favoUrite brit word and concept). Knowing many of
you and "knowing" others of you has made a tremendous difference
in each of our lives, separately and as a couple. Thank you, all
of you, who have touched us or "touched" us!

BTW, we have chosen to include "Whisper My Name" in our wedding
ceremony, preceding our vows. (We did consider including "I
promise to see lots of Gord concerts with you" in our vows, but
no need to state the "obvious"! And for those special chat
buddies in Rik's chat (see above commercial), who knows, we might
even drop into chat for a brit on the 23rd!

Glad we've been able to share this year with each other, all of
you, and Gord!

I am so happy for both of you that all is well and just getting
better! I was asking about you just last week! Best wishes for a
long and healthy life together. Being happy and free is like
dancing when no one is watching!

Hi Susan,
It's been quite a year for me too but not in the same way as you
guys. I'll be thinking of you on the 23rd and wishing you all
the happiness you deserve and desire. Life is now going to be
great and you and John can dance together forever! Hope you
like the photos (John has your copies)and I hope you will be
posting the wedding pictures for us all to see and 'aahh' over!
Have a wonderful time.
Lots of Love

Susan,

All of the very best for you and John!!

I've been mostly a lurker on this list for quite a while, but was quite
active when it first started up - one of the 'charter members' so to
speak. But I do keep in touch with the going's on here, and have
followed with prayers and great interest the things leading up to your
and John's very special day!

I was just thinking about you'all yesterday and wondering how things
were going - almost reached the point of actually posting a note! And,
now, here is this great note from you.

Best of all wishes and may the magic forever continue as it has begun.

It has been a year FULL of GL stuff-- who would have expected at this time
of his career to have a pretty new CD (Painter) a retrospective with great
sound and lots of old never released songs, terrific concerts, and even a TV
event to look forward to! And a vibrant newsgroup to lurk about!

Best of luck to both of you!

I realize this is several days after the fact, but the 23rd is a very good day
for a wedding. It is my parents wedding date.
