ALBUM RECORDING NOTES
=====================

LIGHTFOOT - April 1966 (The album was recorded in late 1964 in New York,
but it took Albert Grossman until the spring of 1966 to
secure a record deal they were satisfied with. Bill Lee,
Spike's father played bass on this one.)

THE WAY I FEEL - 1967 (This album was recorded in Nashville. It came along
about a year after LIGHTFOOT was released)

DID SHE MENTION MY NAME - April 1968 (Lightfoot recorded this album in
December 1967 in New York. John Simon
who produced the Band and Leonard
Cohen, introduced strings for the
first time on a Lightfoot album.
Lightfoot years later commented that
The Last Time I Saw Her still stood
up as a fine song and arrangement,
which is perhaps why he chose not to
re-record it for Gord's Gold.)

BACK HERE ON EARTH - November 1968 (The songs for this album were written in
England in March of 1968, before DID SHE
MENTION MY NAME was even released. He got
on a plane in Toronto and flew to England
just to get some work done. It was recorded
near Nashville in September. Lightfoot
abandoned the string section this time
out.)

SUNDAY CONCERT - May 1969 (This is Lightfoot's only live album to date. It
was recorded at Massey Hall and was Lightfoot's way
of ending his committment to UA. Luckily a number
of older unreleased songs made it onto the album.
This was Rick Haynes' first album appearance.)

IF YOU COULD READ MY MIND - May 1970 (The first big one! Recorded in LA with
some big name guests. Kris Kristofferson appears
uncredited, singing background on Me And Bobby
McGee.)

SUMMER SIDE OF LIFE - April 1971 (Lightfoot returned to Nashville and comes
up with his most "Nashville" sounding album yet.
He records 21 songs for this album, knocking
off 14 in 4 days.)

DON QUIXOTE - April 1972 (Recorded in LA, DON QUIXOTE had Lightfoot
recording up to five songs a day. He has since stated that
the days when you can go in and record in that way,
are long gone. The album was recorded in the fall
of 1971. Terry Clements appears for the first time.)

OLD DAN'S RECORDS - November 1972 (Recovering from a bout with Bell's Palsy,
Lightfoot recorded his first album in
Toronto, where he would continue to record
almost exclusively. Recording took place in
August at RCA studios. This was Barry Keane's
first outing with Lightfoot on record, although
he would not join the band for four more years.)

SUNDOWN - December 1973 (This marked the first of many albums to be recorded
at Eastern Sound in Toronto. In March of 1974,
Lightfoot recorded the Massey Hall series of
concerts for a live album, but a broken fingernail
on his picking hand has caused the tapes to remain
unreleased to this day.)

COLD ON THE SHOULDER - February 1975 (Recorded in Toronto in the fall of
1974, the album was delayed when Carefree
Highway became a hit, which allowed
Lightfoot time to write and record some
new material that was combined with the
original sessions to make up the final
album. Pee Wee Charles' first album with
Lightfoot.)

GORD'S GOLD - November 1975 (Recorded over the summer, Gord's Gold upped the
ante on the run of the mill greatest hits
packages, by re-recording 10 hits from the UA
period.)

SUMMERTIME DREAM - May 1976 (Energized after performing with Dylan's Rolling
Thunder Review, Lightfoot has the songs written
and recorded by January of 1976.)

ENDLESS WIRE - January 1978 (The ENDLESS WIRE sessions were apparently
quite lengthy as Lightfoot had to redo a lot of
the songs, as he wasn't happy with the vocals
the first time around. This was Red Shea's last
album, up to this time.)

DREAM STREET ROSE - February 1980 (Lightfoot returns to LA to record for the
first time since DON QUIXOTE, to take
advantage of the new digital recording
process.)

SHADOWS - February 1982 (Lightfoot again had close to 20 songs to pick from
for this album, recorded back in Toronto once again,
with overdubs done in LA. Mike Heffernan joined the band
about a year prior to this album.)

SALUTE - July 1983 (Lightfoot's most electric album was recorded early in
1983 in Toronto, with Dean Parks again brought in to add guitar
and this time to co-produce. This was Pee Wee Charles' last
album appearance up to this time.)

EAST OF MIDNIGHT - July 1986 (This one took two years to make. Lightfoot had
25 songs written for this one and produced and
arranged the entire album himself. Even after
it was released it wasn't finished, as
Lightfoot continued to remix for the singles.)

GORD'S GOLD II - September 1988 (Lightfoot goes with the re-recording
formula once again for his second greatest
hits album. Recorded in May of 1988 in
Toronto, featuring a very "live" studio
sound.)

WAITING FOR YOU - April 1993 (Lightfoot returned to his older style of
recording, knocking this album out in about a
week. Everything was done live, with very few
overdubs.)

?THE NEW ONE? - ??? 1997 (Lightfoot has already done a week of recording at
Grant Avenue studio in Hamilton, Ontario, back in
February of 1996. Sessions will resume in June,
following the spring tour.)

BENEFIT CONCERTS
================
Here is a list of benefit concerts Lightfoot has donated his time and
talent to over the years. As with most FAQ lists, it remains a "work in
progress" and will continue to be updated.

Lightfoot has, true to form, always been very modest about the donation of
his time to a multitude of causes. Where some public persons have a
tendancy to "milk" their appearances at benefits for all of the publicity
they can generate, Lightfoot continues to do his work in a very low profile
way.

Although it was not a benefit concert, Lightfoot donated $10,000 to help
build an arena in Superior, Wisconsin several years ago. And there's no
telling how many other donations are made by him that never get reported.

Here is the benefit concert list:

1970

YMCA Breezy Point Camp - Opera House - Orillia, ON (Lightfoot raised $3000
to construct a boys camp near Orillia.)

1972

WAITING FOR YOU
===============
Here are the guitar chords for the songs from Waiting For You. I didn't
include all the lyrics, just enough to show how each song is played.
The complete lyrics are included with the album. And if you don't have
the album - what are you waiting for!?

RESTLESS by Gordon Lightfoot

(A/B)

There's a (A)kind of a restless feeling and it (G)pulls me from within
It (A)sets my senses reeling and my (G)wheels begin to (A)spin
In the (D)quietude of winter you can (C)hear the wild geese cry
And (A)I will always love that sound un(G)til the day I (Em)die

There's a (A)plain and a simple answer to (G)each and every quest
From (A)every quiet dancer who might (G)be a special (A)guest
In a (D)movie made for TV or a (C)late night interview
(A)You might even find them on the (G)Young and the Restless (A)too
Do you get that restless feeling when you (D)hear a whistle blast
Like an (Am)echo from the past
Of an (A)old engine (A/G)flying down a (D/F#)road that's (G)iron(A)cast

(A7+) (A7) (G#7+/A) (G#7/A) (G7+/A) (Dm6/A) (Asus4) (A) (G) (A)

RING THEM BELLS by Bob Dylan

(D) (Bm) (D) (Bm)

(D)Ring them bells ye heathen from the (Asus)city that (D)dreams
Ring them bells from the sanctuaries, 'cross the (Asus)valleys and streams
For they're (G)deep and they're wide - (D)and the world's on it's (G)side
And (D/F#)time is running backwards and (Asus)so is the (D)bride Bm D

Ring them (Bm)bells - for the blind and the (D)deaf
Ring them (Bm)bells - for all of us who are (D)left
Ring them (Bm)bells - for the chosen (Bm/A)few
Who will judge the (G)many - when the game is (E)through
Ring them (G)bells - for the time that (D/F#)flies
For the child who (Em7)cries - when innocence (Asus)dies

(Ending) (A) (G) (A) (G) (D/F#) (Asus) (D)

FADING AWAY by Gordon Lightfoot

(Am)I was at the breakwall, I was looking at the sea
In (D)back of an eight ball (Am)in some misery
There on the horizon stood a mighty ship of fools
They were (D)headed into the harbour with (Am)all their broken rules

Whenever I'm feeling (C)lonely I can (D)just pick up the (Am)phone
Or I can go to the (C)movies or just (D)stay at home a(Am)lone
They're better off to be (C)someplace that's a
(D)Good long way from (Am)home
(D)Anyway I can lose myself, (C)the dawn is breaking, I'm (D)hesitating
(A)I'm (G) (D)Fading a(A)way, (G) (D)Fading a(A)way (G) (D) (A)

ONLY LOVE WOULD KNOW by Gordon Lightfoot

(A/B) (B7sus4) (E)

(E)Does the light of (B7sus4)passion still burn (A/B)bright
Only love would (B7sus4)know, my imagin(E)ation
(A/B)Tells me I'm a pent-up fool (B7sus4)in the deep end of the (E)pool
Is the light of (B7sus4)passion burning to(C#m)night
(A/B)Only love would (B7sus4)know, (A/B)only love would (E)know
(A/B)She lives on the other side - you (B7sus4)wanta know the reason (E)why
(A/B)She arrives at promises and (B7sus4)you believe in (E)what she says
(A/B)Everywhere you (B7sus4)go (E) (A/B) (B7sus4) (E)

(E)Is the light of (B7sus4)passion burning to(A/B)night
Everywhere you (B7sus4)go, (A/B)only love would (E)know
(A/B)You think you've been wronged again
Oh (B7sus4)what a way to (E)treat a friend
(A/B)She belongs to other eyes and (B7sus4)surely you must (E)realize
(A/B)She ain't the kind who would (B7sus4)soon step a(E)side
(A/B)Pay any dues at the ex(B7sus4)pense of her (E)pride
(A/B)Everywhere she (B7sus4)goes, (A/B)only love would (E)know

WILD STRAWBERRIES by Gordon Lightfoot

(D)If I had a (A/F#)dollar, (G)if I had a (D)cent
I would play most (A/F#)anywhere, if (G)it would pay my (A)rent
I'd be (G)living on the (A/G)downside in (G)my old apart(A/G)ment

(A)Moving to the upside, tell me (Bm)when does the (A)fun be(G)gin
(D/A)Deep as the sea and as wild as the weather
We will (A)go just you and me to pick wild strawberries together
Or be (D/A)living on our own in a cabin in a meadow
Or me(A)andering alone we can face the world forever or we'll

(D)Hit the (D/F#)bounding (G)main or be (A)on a railroad (D)train

I'D RATHER PRESS ON by Gordon Lightfoot

(C)Is it my imagination or is (F)it my iron pride
I (G)wonder if it matters much if (Am)time is on my side
I'd rather press (C)on - I don't wanta rest (F)easy
(Am)Anywhere I (G)stray - I will (C)make it a brand new (F)day
Anyway that is (C)all I gotta (G)say
I'd (Am)rather be by the seaside than be (C)playing a one night stand
I've been (Am)too wrapped up in (C)my own dreams
I will (F)change things if I (G)can
I gotta press (C)on - don't wanta rest (F)easy
(Am)Wouldn't it feel (G)fine to re(C)turn to the women and the (F)wine
And all of the (C)sunshine that we (G)knew (Em) (G) (C)

DRINK YER GLASSES EMPTY by Gordon Lightfoot

(G)Listen up and I'll (C/G)tell you what you'll (G)do (D/F#)
(G)Forget about (C/G)music (D)and alcohol (G)too
For(C)get about your (G/B)baby we got (Am)other work for (D)you
Better (G)drink yer glasses (C/G)empty now
It's (D)time to rise and (Em)shine
There's (G)one less (C/G)cause in the (D/F#)world to be leaving (G)for

(G)It was back in (C/G)'39 when (D)I was one year (G)old
Sitting by the (C/G)backyard fence and the (D)world had turned so (G)cold
(C)Drink yer glasses (Am)empty now was (D/F#)all that they were (G)told
Drink yer glasses (A/B)empty now it's (D)time to hit the (G)sky
To the tune of (A/B)thunder there's no (D)time to wonder (C)why (G/B) (Am)
