Woo Hoo! I know that feeling well. There are some moments in life when
only the beach will do. Well, sometimes ony bungee jumping will do;
throwing oneself off a bridge is a great way to get some perspective on
life. But try the beach first Ariel.

And if you need a west coast choice I recommend Oysterville, Washington.
No cars allowed on this part of the WA coast, remote but worth the effort.
Sand dollars and shells. Small dunes to pitch a tent in and while away an
afternoon reading and napping with the roar of the surf in the background.
"Our favorite beach" rated by Nika and Pearl Markle.

La Push or other stretch of beach in
the Olympic National Park.
Watch out for those *huge* trees that get
thrown up on the beach (like matchsticks)
by the surf.
Picking up trash there is interesting. Milk cartons
from Hawaii, Jap hand blown glass fish net floats,
Russian fish net floats that look like war mines,
and real war mines...

eeeewwww! Trash and tar balls!
There is a good place to eat by the bridge though...
"Snoopies". Best Hamburgers on the Texas Gulf Coast.

Hey Joe, you forgot the hospital waste and brown water! ;)

I think I just stuck with Whattaburger last time I was in Corpus... then again,
I was more concerned with watching people "interact" in the hotel that was next
to mine :)

I'd even settle for a day on Galveston Beach, (really foamy, gray, oily and
grungy ocean). But, I like the old purple and green victorian style houses and
the great seafood. It's fun to Roller blade on the sea wall and sit on the
breakers watching the shanty shrimp boats dot the horizon.
I like the Hotel Galvez, 120 years old, with its archaic musty smell and old
world elegance. Darn, now I am craving a shrimp fest at Red Lobster. Do they
deliver?

Karen, I love Washington State and although I've never been to Oysterville, it
sounds like a cure for me.

Moonbase,
That was an awesome poem.
I loved it.
And real war mines?!!!!!!
I like beach artifacts. I've found jewelry and cool trash. Hearing aids,
marital aids, fossils and feathers. I like different beach sand.
I've bungeed and it was terrifying. I am not a heroic person. I needed
sedation for days and I ached and was bruised.
I'm gonna find that beach or throw myself off another bridge into the endless
sea.
Well, I didn't want to insult anyone, but now that you
mention it... <g>
Now that I'm out of out of Texas, we get TV commercials
about "vacationing in Texas". The beaches they show,
well... I dont think thats a Texas beach. I have seen
the *whole* coast. It's a bit better down south around
Port Isabel. Corpus Christi is *way* better than Galveston.
There is a little beach just the other side of the state line
going east. They have more shells than I have ever seen
anywhere. You could load a pickup full in no time at all!
Jow
Now your talking Ariel! There is a lot of really neet
historic stuff to see in Old Galveston. They did a fine
job restoring the old warf district, and the old Hotel
Galvez is really cool too. I still like the Flagship
Hotel over the ocean (no matter how ratty it gets).
Open up the door to the balcony and hear the surf,
the gulls, and do some fishing (not forgetting to
load the closet up with Red Snapper). I have been
sitting on the balcony drinking and seen a shark
go by, heading up to the sixth floor.
I recommend stopping at Caseys (used to be Guidos
coffeeshop) for Wade Watkins griddle cakes in the
morning, and getting all dressed up and going to
Guidos main dining room in the evening. Best service
and seafood you will *anywhere* along the gulf.
Of course, I have good recommendations for Port Angles,
Washington as well...
Joe
That is a cool hotel. I stayed there for the last lunar eclipse in the fall of
'96 and it was so cool on the balconey watching the moon's reflection in the
water as it was obstructed, disappearing and then being reborn. The gulls cried
out in desolate darkness and then everything became so still and silent.
I like the restoration of some of the old 1920's deco work, reminiscent of
South Beach in Miami, (which is also a favorite spot. I hate all the nudity
there though, I'm sure I'm in the minority with that opinion, though.)

I still have a longing for Atlantic City in NJ, now a glittering casino lined
scene. The ocean was grey and polluted and the smell of decay was prevalent,
but, it was the beach of my childhood days. I think that's why I like
Galveston, it reminds me of the old Atlantic City in a lot of ways.
You can get them to come to you by throwing bread.
A don't recommend Alka Seltzers though. Makes a terrible mess.

My brother loves the art deco thing in SoBe. I love the nudity <g>

Yes, Moonbase, I too enjoyed it. Thank you!

The director of the Laboratory for Coastal
Research at the University of Maryland, Dr.
Stephen Leatherman (aka "Dr. Beach")
studies the impact of erosion, storm damage,
and human intervention on coastal areas.
Dr. Beach considers physical factors such as
sand softness, color, water temperature and
wave size; biological factors such as water
color, wildlife and smell; and human use and
impacts such as trash, access, noise, and
intensity of use when rating a beach.
Dr. Beach tries to balance both the
manmade environment and nature when
evaluating a beach.
Dr. Beach tells us that the quartz found on
our beaches came from the Appalachian Mountains
millions of years ago. Over the eons, other sand
components have been ground up and washed away,
leaving a feathersoft, blindingly white, quartz
powder.
Dr. Beach likens our beach sand to "... a bar of
Ivory Soap -- it's ninety-nine and forty-four
one-hundredths percent pure quartz ..."
This is the finest, whitest sand in the world
that I've seen. The beaches are dazzling --
pure white sands, melting into emerald green
waters.

What is the best Led Zeppelin album?(CD) and their best song?
and what is your top 5 rock bands.
I had a heated discussion with this one dude (he was about 23) about
who is the better band. Led Zeppelin or Motley Crue (god those dudes
suck big time). "no way, man the crue stompes on Led Zeppelin" he said.
to each his own I guess. but Motley Crue are nowhere as great as Zepp.
I can't think of a worse band than MC. "freaky fucks!"
My favorite one was Led Zeppelin IV. but after listening to "Houess Of
The Holy" again after a year of so it's my favorite one now. my fav
songs is "Stairway to Heaven" and "D'yer Mak'er" my top 5 bands are...
In order
Led Zeppelin
Jimi Hendrix (The Experience)
Fleetwood Mac
Yes
Jethro Tull
Stay cool dudes!
Keep those buds burning!
-Big John
It's only Jimi Hendrix

Hi, John! Nice to meet you. (The women on the NG are always glad to
meet *any* guy who puts the word "big" before his name!) ;)

You're likely to get as many answers for those as there are posters.
And then if you ask us again, the same people likely won't give the
same answers! That's the magic of Zeppelin--versatility and something
to appeal to every person's every mood.
Many of us listen to boots as much or more than studio albums, which
also adds to the changeability of our opinions for "best song"!
> and what is your top 5 rock bands.
Zep, Page/Plant--and the rest are inconsequential and inconstant.
Depends on my mood.

Though I liked a few of the things the Crue did, they aren't, and
never were, in the same class as Zeppelin. (That's a key word to the
reason, too: "class". Or lack of it.)

You get points here for spelling "D'yer Mak'er" correctly! :) Now,
for the bonus round: Can you tell us how it is *pronounced*? Or do
we have to LEDucate you? (We like "schoolin'"!)
Anyway...welcome!
