I remember reading an article a few months back that Pete Townshend and his
wife Karen split up, and Pete had taken on a younger girlfriend. This one
was almost as surprising as Robert and his wife Maureen splitting up in 1981
(or thereabouts). You figure, having made it through the heavy groupie days
of the 1970s it would be smooth sailing from there on out. Of course, the
inactivity and spending time together MAY be what lead to the breakups.
Also, Robert and Maureen had lost Karac but they also had another child
after that, right around ITTOD.

Does anyone remember reading why they broke-up after all this - was it
Robert leaving Maureen, or vica versa, or a mutual break-up?

Also, I can't fathom how much $$ Robert must have lost in that one...

Robert never discussed his reasons publicly, and neither did Maureen.

With respect to the cash aspect, you must understand that the British system
is not as advantageous to wives as it is in the States. You may recall that
Jimmy took considerable lengths to ensure that his divorce was done in the
UK rather than in the USA, where is ex wanted it. Big savings for Led
Wallet.

Now as for why Robert divorced .... my guess is that he fell in love with
someone else. According to the rumors at the time, he left Maureen to be
with Maureen's sister. Also at this time, Maureen was rumored to be having
a serious fling with Bad Company's Paul Rodgers.

Wasn't "The Crunge" lyrics an sideways swipe at the Mrs. Plant/Paul
Rogers affair? I heard it was a short-lived affair.

dpat, Not likely, The Crunge was done in '73 when Mrs. Plant was real busy having and caring for babies.
