Whatever one may think of Supertramp, "underrated" by whom, you
fucktard?
Do something important such as thinking of additional ways to get your
mother out of the house so that you and Papa Raja can have your two
loser circle jerk.
you guys are so sad. can't you ever find anything good to say. you
keep saying I dont discuss other bands apart from Zep, Yes or Floyd.
When I do, you still act like a jackass.
Supertramp sold many recordings when they were together. Why are
they underrated? Who underrated them?
Jeff
I resemble that.
Of the seven songs you name, four are from the same album --
"Breakfast in America." Each of those songs was a Top 20 Billboard
hit. The album itself was No. 1 and sold 11 million copies around the
world. Any half-aware rock fan is already familiar with this well-
known music, so I don't see the point of your post. Are you going to
post a message like this to RST every time you listen to some old
music that you somehow missed until that point? It might be better,
and less taxing on everyone else, just to record your observations
privately. "Dear Diary, Today I listened to a band called the Bee
Gees ...."
Please-don't discuss any bands here.
Are you kidding me? I have heard Supertramp since a long time. I have
recently started hearing them as I put their album to my iphone (from
my ipod) and realized they were pretty good. Do you the know the
difference being popular and being rated well? Yes Supertramp were
popular (not as much say Beatles or Zep) but they were popular, but
they were never highly regarded. But I think these guys were talented
and could write some good memorable songs and deserve more respect
than what they generally seem to get from rock critics and fans.
I am shocked people don't know the difference between rated well and
being popular.
progressive pop/rock
I am shocked that you don't understand that no one cares about how
bands purportedly are "rated," at least not bands that had their
heyday 30 years ago. So you've listened to some Supertramp recently.
So what? Everyone already knows about that group, and you've said
nothing new about them. Today I listened to John Adams'
"Harmonielehre" in my car. Should I therefore post a message to a
tennis newsgroup that says, "John Adams = Underrated"? Next we'll be
seeing posts about the kind of cereal you had for breakfast ("Captain
Crunch = Underrated").
RYM says Crime Of The Century is best followed by Breakfast in America
followed by Paris (live). Their debut self titled album is supposed a
good underrated album and resembles Yes.
http://rateyourmusic.com/artist/supertramp
By the way. Mr Poisoned "clueless" Rose, RYM agrees with me.
Genres Pop/Rock, Progressive Rock, Art Rock, Progressive Pop
I don't care what others care about.

It's my choice. I will do whatever I wanna do. If I feel something is
underrated, I will talk about it. If I feel something is overrated, I
will talk about. Internet is a free world. I will say whatever I
want. I am FREE. I am not listening to commies like you.

Its your choice. I can tell you I won't be bitching even if you post
that your dick is underrated.
Who cares... they all mean the same.

Are you sure? I have read a lot of reviews out there - even the shitty
ones on Rolling Stone magazine, VH1 and allmusic.com.

you are a snob. and snobs are usually biased cunts. you are snobby
biased cunt. I dont claim I have heard every rock band out there, but
I have covered a lot of them - at least some of the best ones.
They are the same when referred to in this context (of judging albums/
songs/artists).

Street experience? WTF is that supposed to mean? You are sounding like
Howldog now
You are just being an ass here. I have discussed so many different
bands over the years. And I have obviously not discussed many bands/
artists I have heard over the years.
> But if newly discovering Supertramp is your current state of "musical

I never claimed that, you moron. But I am not a snob like you. I don't
feel proud that I discovered an obscure band and feel like compiling
lists of obscure artists/albums and showing what a great knowledgeable
guy I am like you do. It is not an achievement for me to discover
music. I was listening to Aphex Twin the other day after a long time
the other day, I was impressed but I didn't feel like talking about
him. I still prefer The Orb or Orbital over Aphex Twin. But I didn't
feel like talking about all that in rock newsgroups. Supertramp is a
lot more closer to rock than those electro bands. So more apt to
discuss here.

Idiot, I have listened to Supertramp, almost 10 years ago. I just felt
like talking about them, now. Is that a crime?
What makes you think that?

You are so delusional. Stop fantasizing stuff about me.
I have always considered 'Super Tramp' the gayest name ever for any band.
Clearly they were pretty fucking useless overall. At best they were the
Lendl of tennis - ie of zero consequence in historical terms.
Got tp remember Raja was still sperm when Supertramp had their run,
along with Yes, LZ and PF
What an obnoxious troll!
Raja is still sperm. He belongs in a tissue.
http://www.encyclopedia.com/doc/1G2-3494300078.html
They don't look underrated to me, but it would depend on
who you are comparing them to.
Jeff
Maybe if you could restrain yourself from being an arbitrary,
obsessive compulsive, obnoxious, clueless, useless, hopeless, dickless
fanboi people would have something nice to say about you. Or you could
just stop the crossposting and drama queen bullshit. That might help.
Never underrated, big commercial group.
I never liked them, I particularly disliked the Logical Song, if I
remember it correctly, it's been a while.
Turns out they were an influence on Devo, not good news for Devo really.
They suck. I don't like progressive rock.
No need for that you pathetic toe sucker.
Oops. Looks as if I hit a raw nerve with hose boy.
> I don't care what others care about.
Er, REALLY?
JJ (UK)
Oh the 'irony'. Raja accusing someone else of being a snob.
JJ (UK)
Wow who could have dreamed your already-zero credibility could still
plummet so far so fast?
richforman
Haha you nailed it PR. This was certainly one of Raj's most
hilariously pathetic all-time post attempts. The thought process is
to die: "Hmm, these guys think I'm limited and one-dimensional for
always only talking about Yes, Zep and Floyd....I'll really impress
'em, show 'em how wide-ranging my musical taste and curiousity really
are, throw 'em a wild curve ball and talk instead
about.....Supertramp!" It sounds like a Jon Stewart bit from the
Daily Show, you couldn't come up with a better punchline.
Not that it matters at all, I feel really silly about but what the
hell - I have only heard their hits and for my money they rank with
the absolute worst of their era and genre which already are glutted
with terribleness....all the songs Raja listed above are among the
most annoying, twee, pretentious, obnoxious, generally unlistenable
"rock" tracks I know from all time, they are even worse than Styx,
worse than REO Speedwagon IMO (at least some of REO's songs have a
cheesy, campy, so-bad-it's-good singalong vibe to them where I might
stay tuned to warble along to one for fun once or twice a decade;
Supertramp is just painful). Not only will I switch the radio station
if I hear one second of the above-mentioned list of Supertramp songs
come on, in fact I completely avoid listening to commercial rock radio
just because of the chance that I MIGHT hear one at any time.
richforman
Dead right. I wonder what he'll come up with next to show his
"diversity" - Gentle Giant, perhaps? Marillion? Even Procul Harum
would be a step in the right direction - except I doubt there would be
any depth to any reasoning. If only he could show some insight, but
we've been waiting a long time already.
I half expect him to turn up one day with his "top 5 Miles Davis
tracks" which he's extracted from some list somewhere, and then
pronounce "hey, see, I love jazz too" without the slightest idea what
Miles Davis is about. "Cool? Yeah, he's cool!"

Oh, well, it takes all sorts. I like a lot of Supertramp, got 2
collections plus a live album and one studio album on cd plus 3 more
studio albums on vinyl. But I tend to go through phases when I play
them a lot, then a year or two may elapse before another such phase
commences. Hide In Your Shell is one of my favourites. But while I
like them, I can understand why others may not. The opposite of Rush,
I suppose, who I can't listen to (it's the voice) but I can understand
how others may like them.
Personally, I liked Crisis What Crisis and Crime of the Century, they
were well suited to the time when they were produced. They lost me
about halfway through "Even in the Quietest Moments" and I never
looked back. There's always something new to check out. Some of my
friends bought "Breakfast..." but it sounded like a TV commercial to
me.
Do you think he knows about the old 'free form" FM DJ trick of
crossfading from "Babe I'm Gonna Leave You" into "School" ... hearing
that would probably make him splooge all over hisself.
I always wondered if they weren't playing along to the Led Zep record
at the beginning of School. Try it sometime if you have the
capability, (you can do it in Garageband I think) it's pretty groovy
as we used to say.
I don't think I know "School," is it a Supertramp song? I remember
hearing lots of deejays show how near-identical-sounding were the
beginnings of Spirit's "Nature's Way" and the Cheap Trick hit, "The
Flame."
richforman
"School" is a Supertramp track that starts with a wailing echoey
harmonica part. Does that help?
As regards similar beginnings, there's a Stones album, possibly
Bridges or Voodoo, where if you play the first 3 seconds of successive
tracks at one point, you get identical Charlie Watts drum intros.
something you made up and guessed about me (just like a lot of other
chumps here do). My thought process was this - lets talk about a band,
not many care for. After I do like some of their catchy songs, so why
not promote them. I absolutely do not consider them among the best
rock bands ever. but they had a knack for good melodies. They also
seemed to have at least two albums which seem to have some respect
(Crime of the Century and Breakfast in America). So I was wondering if
some people have heard it and what they think of it.
> to die: "Hmm, these guys think I'm limited and one-dimensional for
> always only talking about Yes, Zep and Floyd....I'll really impress
I do not post here to impress people, you chump. I post here to start
discussions. many times assholes like Me/amy jump in to ruin the
thread. But I ignore them. I would more than happy, if people who are
not interested in my posts do not contribute at all. But most of the
time, it is them who keep responding. Its a shame, my threads attract
trolls for the most part.
I do not claim I am an expert. I do not claim to have heard every
album which came out in the last 50 years. I however do claim that I
have heard the music I talk about here. Because that would be insane,
to talk about music you have never heard of. Snobs like poisoned rose
claim they have heard a lot more music than me. It might be true, but
it has nothing to do the fact, I have heard my share of music and I
can discuss them, if I want to. If you do not like what I discuss,
just don't respond to it. Its that easy.

If you cross from "Babe I'm Gonna Leave You" the key and tempo are
identical so it sounds like the records have merged, if you time it
right you can't tell where one starts and the other ends.
I never saw fit to shell out money for any of their songs or albums, but I
don't mind it if I hear them occasionally on radio.
Sure...."Take the Long Way Home"! (Sorry....was this a hit? If so
I'm sure I'd recognize it and am just not making the connection from
the title; if it was a non-radio-play album track, I'm sure I don't
know it. Maybe I just have the title wrong for "Long Way Home"?,
don't think so though, that one starts the way you describe this one
though, sounds like they may have been into a bit of formula/gimmick
there.) I do really hate all their tunes though (no dis meant to
anybody who likes 'em, I have plenty of favorites you guys would
probably laugh at!), "Logical Song," God I hope I never have to hear
that again.

Haha yes, I know exactly what you mean, that was even referenced in a
high-profile review of the album, maybe in Rolling Stone or something;
I think it was Bridges or might have even been A Bigger Bang.

The problem is you don't have the ability to do that because you don't
have anything remotely interesting or coherent to say about any of the
bands or music you try to "start discussion" about. No musical
insight or knowledge and no capacity to articulate your opinions or
impressions of any of it beyond pretty much "I like this" or "I don't
like that."
> I have heard my share of music and I
> can discuss them, if I want to. If you do not like what I discuss,

You can discuss whatever you like (although really we'd rather you
didn't), and we can laugh at you if we want. If yuo can't stand the
heat get out of the newsgroup. (Seriously, get out.)
richforman
When Breakfast in America hit, Supertramp had moved toward cookie
cutter type pop tunes. I like this album less than their previous. Two
songs in the key of Cm on the same main instrument on the same side
for me would be a no-no, but there are "Girlfriend" and "The Logical
Song"...
Give the album Even In The Quietest Moments a try. Put it on and drop
the lights and distractions.

What you will hopefully learn someday is that wannabe bigshots or name
brand critics who toss out "worthy" or "not worthy" judgements on
music mean nothing. To have a job "music critic" is pure sham.

Better yet, compose a list of the most full-of-it music critics, hmmm?

I've spent some time at the Salt Lake City airport waiting for connecting
flights, so maybe I should do a Raja-style list of the most overrated and
underrated features of SLC using arbitrary criteria that I just make up.
That I don't actually know anything about SLC shouldn't be a problem,
ignorance doesn't stop "Raja" from making pointless list upon list about
rock music. Hmmm, I wonder where the "progressive" part of SLC is, or where
the country-folk-rock district is located? Oh who cares, so long as I've
flown over the city on an airliner that's all the knowledge I'll need to do
it Raja-style.
