Hi,

I found a song on the web called Das Boot. It's labled as a Kraftwerk song.
Is It? It sounds like it could be.

thanks

Any ideas who it could be? It may not be the real thing, but it at least
sounds like it.

I think this is someone trying to do their 'homework'.
An honest question I think.

U96 - Das Boot
Music by Klaus Doldinger
Produced by Matiz/AC 16
Polydor, Hamburg 1991

In many cases mistakingly labeled as a Kraftwerk song on the net.

The story of the song and the group can be found here:

I ran across that too. Propably some Americans thinking ""Mmmm Das Boot,
sounds German, some electronics in it, must be Kraftwerk.

Actually it's by Klaus Doldinger and its from 81.

It's the tune for the movie and subsequent tv-series Das Boot by Wolfgang
Petersen, which is about a U-boot during the second world war. Impressive
series, fabulous music. If you like the tune you should d/l (or buy) the
rest of the soundtrack. The film and the music are one of my favourites.
Just bought the dvd.

That dreadfull rippoff by U96 is loosely based on the themetune, suplemented
with frases from the Speach Program for the Atari 1040.

U96's version is a ripp off.

The original sounds nothing like it. It doesn't sound like KW too, but it's
good music.

Listened to "The Mix" a couple times the other day.... it sounds similar to me
(maybe I'm a sucker for the german sounding vocoder).

alex christensen is surely a ripp off.
smartarse music targeted at the charts,
trying to cash in on the german "tekkno"
wave of the early nineties. no real
passion for man & machines like kw.
if he悲 lived in the early 70愀, he悲 come
up with a progrock anthem for daytime
television, i guess.

anyway...

This is odd. I remember the track and it was basically a speeded-up
remake of the theme tune to the tv series Das Boot (about a U-boat).
It's got a great string line on it but it's not Kraftwerk.

The CD single has about eight mixes and they're nearly all identical!

Cheers
Al
