Here's the message.
Hi, I'm Jon. I'm posting this message not to bash Ulrich or Metallica but
to further expand on the concept of what makes great drummer, and other
interesting stuff. I'm not denying Ulrich or Portnoy any greatness on
anything I say, so don't think I'm bashing or critisizing. No to the point.
I'm a Dream Theater fan and they hold THEE best songs and music I've heard
to date. Mike Portnoy in my opinion is THEE best drummer for you drum
fanatics to listen to, the reason I say this isn't because he can play
very,VERY fast on drum solos, but because his musical style unlike any other
I've ever heard, and his rythems are complex to the fullest. He has the
biggest drum set I've ever seen, yes much bigger than Ulrich's. I hear very
commonly that Ulrich is the best drummer from Metallica fans, and when I
tell the that there's better drummers like Mike Portnoy, they argue, say
this and that and that about him, and they say he's better because he's got
21 years of drumming experience,or how fast he can drum. Portnoy has 23
years drumming experience but you know what? Experience doesn't make a
drummer good, nor how fast he can drum, it's how
talented he is and how smart and technical, and how complex is beats are,
and his song writing, etc. Not experience or speed. That's like saying
George Lucas is a better director than Steven Speilburg, just because he's
been around longer. And another thing I wish the Met fans I meet would stop
wanting to argue so much because arguing is a fat waste of breathe, and
doesn't acomplish anything. If your going to compare drummers let his
drumming do the talking, especially drum solos, alright? I'm simply saying
that Ulrich isn't THEE best as Met fans are suggesting. I'm not saying that
Portnoy is THEE best either.
I just want this subject to end about drummers. I would like all feeback on
questions, suggestions, opinions, and everything that you'd like to say to
ME. stev...@pacbell.net

I'm 16 and DT is much better than Metallica and Korn. Dream Theater's been
around for 9 years and they've sold over 250 million records! 8 million in
Asia alone for the second time! And for the fourth time the sold 4 million
at least since 1994! Tell me has Korn done that?

Umm 250 million records, Yeah right. The Beatles have sold the most records to
date, some where over 100 million, and Garth Brooks is second and climbing. go
check out www.riaa.com, and look up how many albums they have sold. Also I
haven't heard dream theater so I can't compare drummer's, but my favorite
drummer is Chad Sexton from 311.

There are specific newsgroups for those things. Why is this message here?
I'm not even going to get into how wrong he is about Jonathan and just about
everything else...
