------------------------------------------------------------------------

0: Q What are Wilt doing at the moment?
A: At this precise moment in time? Who knows ;) In general, promoting
their new single and iminant album release. For more info see section
5.1.

0.1: Q When will the Wilt album/single be out?
A: The Wilt album will be released early 2000 (possibly January.)
The first single 'No worries' is available in some places still.
The new single 'It's all over now' was released 18/10/99 in the UK.
See section 5.1 for more info.

0.2: Q Where can I get a copy of [insert name]?
A: Kerbdog released 7 singles (see section 2.2.1 for chronological
Discography.) The difficulty of finding each single follows the
formula:
(Difficulty to find when released) * (age of single)
A rough guide can be found in section 0.4.1 Album wise the main rule is
that 'On the turn' wasn't released anywhere much outside of Europe (and
not really anywhere else except UK and Irl.) It's still fairly easy to
find in the UK, and therefore I guess Ireland. Outside of that, I would
have said the best bet is via import or through UK based online stores
(see section 0.2.3) Wilt singles aren't all that hard to find. With the
release of 'It's all over now' even 'No worries' is fairly easy to find.

0.2.1: Q Was [insert name] available on [format]?
A: See the Discography for more info (section 2.2.1) Kerbdog had a
number of original tracks that were only ever available as B-sides on
singles. Some are almost impossible
to find. The general rule is though:
. I've never seen any single on Audio.
. I've never seen Sally or Mexican Wave on Vinyl - but it could have
been.
. Anything which says promo or limited edition in the Discography
section will be like gold dust to find.
. Not even Darragh or Battle have anything much unreleased by the
'dog, so it's not worth asking them.
. Anything on Vinyl is about 10 times harder to find now than most of
the CD single stuff, but there will be exceptions to this rule. See 5.1
for a Wilt discography.

0.2.2: Q What merchandise is available?
A: Not much. Kerbdog wise, T-shirts in the main. There have been a
number of designs, ranging from simple logos to Dummy Crusher which had
the leprachaun from the single cover on it. The last batch of Kerbdog T-
shirts were sold in Ireland for the last Kerbdog show. These were the
most popular, one being navy blue with a 3 man logo on the back and
'Kerbdog' on the front, and a maroon-ish one with smaller logos.
There was a Dry Riser shirt which was 'black with the finger on the
front, and dry riser written in big writing on the back'. There was
also an End of Green shirt which was 'was green with kerbdog on the
front and end of green written imaginatively on the back'. There were
also some really early ones such as the 'Trash the gaff' one.
There were some promo postcards for the Dry Riser single (the finger
from the single on the front of them), and a few posters (one with the
Mexican wave single cover in blue) to advertise tours. None of these
were ever sold afaik, so I guess it was only people who grabbed them at
the time who may still have them. Wilt don't have any merchandise at
the moment. When asked Mick stated 'It's still early days at the
moment.'

0.2.3: Q Can I get [insert name] online or from a shop?
A: Buying online is possible. The best place I've ever found so far is
located at:

Action Records still have copies of the Kerbdog albums and regularly
get the Wilt singles in. As for the Kerbdog singles - they do have
some, but these are usually only Sally or Mexivan Wave which aren't all
that hard to find anyway.

If you email 'rock...@virgin.net' and request a catalogue, you'll
find there are a number of items listed.

One of the best places to find Kerbdog material is in record faires.
I've found 2 of the three radio promos from the On the Turn album and
also 'JJ song Ep' on CD. The one I always find stuff at is held in the
Camden Electric Ballroom on Saturdays. Thre's a guy who has a stall as
you go in on the right. He usually has at least something. I haven't
been there in a while so I haven't a clue if it still happens though.

Failing that, look in the back of Kerrang and Metal Hammer. There are
specialist shops listed which may carry some kerbdog.

Ones to try :

Rockshaw Records (01782 302854 / rock...@msn.com) **have had stuff
before**
Alice's Records (http://www.alicesrecords.com)
AJ-CD (http://www.redditch.com/ajcd)
ST Records (01384 230726)

I can't guarantee that any of these will have a single item, but they
are worth trying.

0.2.4: I Q don't live in the UK/Ireland, where can I get [insert name]?
A: Your best bet is to either try Action Records or phone around.
Outside of Europe I doubt you'll find most stuff easily. If you can
afford the expense you could ask somebody in the UK to look out for
something for you. I'd be willing to do this for a few people, but to
be honest I wouldn't expect too much success. If you're not bothered
about owning the original article and just want the music see section
0.5.

0.3: Q Which Kerbdog songs have/do Wilt played?
A: Wilt as a rule don't play Kerbdog songs at all. At their first few
gigs they played 'Dyed in the Wool' from the Sally single. The only
other songs you could claim that are Kerbdog songs are 'I want it all'
and 'Working for the man' which Kerbdog played live at least once. I
doubt you could really call them 'Kerbdog' songs though as they weren't
ever released. As Battle writes all the Material they're just Battle
songs that both bands have happened to play.

0.3.1: Q Will Wilt ever play [insert name] by Kerbdog?
A: I can't predict the future but from what the band have said in the
press and to me personally I doubt it. They still come across as very
bitter about the way Kerbdog ended and what happened to them at the
hands of Mercury, and so I'm guessing that until they feel differently
the answer is 'No!' This is a good thing though as Wilt have a very
distinct style and sound which is akin to Kerbdog, but more mature and
commercially viable. Playing Kerbdog material will do them no favours
until they establish themselves as a band in their own right. As Mick
said to me at the Barfly gig 'It's still early days.'

0.4: Q Why is every Kerbdog record deleted?
A: When record companies decide to drop artists it's usually because
they feel they can't make any money out of selling their music anymore.
This being the case, they're unlikely to continue to produce the un-
proffitable music for general consumption. As unfair as this is to the
fans, it's a fact of life. There was a rumour that the Kerbdog albums
were going to be re-released/re-issued as a single package, but so far
this hasn't surfaced.

0.4.1: Q How hard is [insert name] to find second hand in
[continent/country]?
A: The following is list of what is out there and how hard it is to
find begining with the easiest. It's only a rough guide, and is based
on my experience and the experience of others I know and mainly refers
to 'Mint' items (ie not badly damaged.) Digipack singles are those
in Paper-ish boxes, and CDS are those in this plastic boxes.

key:

I seriously wouldn't really pay anything more than about £5 for
anything other than Dry Riser 7"'s or CDM and £8 for JJ's Song CDS or
Earthworks, but the prices reflect how hard they are to find.

Album wise within the UK/IRL:
Kerbdog (UK) £10, On the Turn £12 and Kerbdog (US) £15
The US version's CD doesn't have a picture on it and the CD booklet is
on dull paper.

Outside of the UK/IRL, no more than $25 for any of the albums, although
in the US I wouldn't pay more than $8 for the US version of Kerbdog.

For Wilt:
. It's All Over Now (all formats) £4
. No worries CDS [ltd] ** £5
. No worries 7" (green) [ltd] **/*** £5
. It's All Over Now [p] **** £6

Although 'No Worries' is supposedly Limited edition, it's not all that
hard to find. The 'It's all over now' pormo is possibly easier to find
than that, but I'm hedging my bets. I personally wouldn't pay more than
£4 for anything Wilt have done so far because it's all pretty easy to
find.

Wilt Albums/Other stuff: None really to speak of.
. Audio sampler (4 tracks, 30 secods samples) * - nothing!! Email Wilt
to requst a copy
. Golden Grahams CD *- The price of a pack of Golden/Cinemon Grahams.
. Bastinado 5 Track Album Sampler ****** as much as the person want's
for it ;) It's like gold dust.
. Bastinado (full album) - as much as you are stupid enough to pay for
it until it's released, after that £15.99 or there abouts.

0.5: Q Can I get anything on bootleg?
A: Russel Quinn has produced a Kerbdog B-Side compilation. Email him
for more details.

Bootlegs which will surface at some point:
Kerbdog @ Feile 93 & 94, Audio
Kerbdog @ Point, Dublin, Audio
Kerbdog Live in Concrete '94 (ish) Audio
Kerbdog @ Whelans '97 - Audio/Video
Kerbdog @ Mean Fiddler March '98 - Audio/video
Wilt @ Funnel March '98 - Audio/Video
Wilt @ Monarch, Camden - Audio
Wilt @ Rockbox, Camberley - Audio
Various Radio Sessions and Interviews are floating about too.

0.5.1: Q What bootlegs are available?
A: Russ has the only bootleg available at the moment, but expect more
to surface in the very near future ;) Stay tuned ;)

0.6: Q How do I contact [kerbdog/wilt member]?
A: To contact Wilt use the following methods:
Email: wilt...@yahoo.com
Snail Mail: c/o paul dando,
sanctuary music management,
sanctuary house,
45-53 sinclair road,
london w14 0ns.

As for Fennelly and Dalton, leave the poor guys alone ;)

------------------------------------------------------------------------

1: Q. Who or what is a Kerbdog?
A: Kerbdog was 3 piece band from Kilkenny, Rep. of Ireland (Eire).
They had an interesting and original sound, coupled with
enough raw talent that should have won them the glory they deserved.
They released 2 albums (the caustic 'Kerbdog' and excellent 'On the
Turn'.
They never reached their full potential due to the poor treatment they
Got at the hands of their record company (they got dropped almost as
soon as their second album was released.)

1.1: Q. Who's in Kerbdog then?
A: As they have now split up, nobody ;) but that was a twofold answer.
Towards the end of their career it equated to:

Cormac Battle, vocals/guitars
Colin Fennelly, bass
Darragh Butler, drums

They had been touring since 1996 with this line up. Previously
however they had a second guitarist called Billy Dalton, who left
just after the recording of their second album 'On the turn'. The first
official report of his departure was as follows:

"KERBDOG GUITARIST QUITS
Kerbdog guitarist Billy Dalton has left the band. No replacement has
been confirmed.
(January 18th, 1996)"
In a Metal Hammer interview (March 1997 issue) A clue as to just what
happened to Dalton was given,
"[Recording 'on the turn' in America] also saw the painful departure
of Kerbdog guitarist Billy Dalton, a scenario that had been on the
cards for a while, but was exacerbated (ed:???) and finally brought
to a head by the tension of recording..",
Colin Fennely had this to say: "If GGGarth hadn't pointed out what
was going on, then Billy might be still in the band... We're really
nice guys and he was a mate, so we couldn't say 'Are you able to do
this?' I think if he was still with us, he'd be in a mental home by
now. He said himself on the day when he left the band, he got so
nervous before he went on stage, he didn't know what notes to play..
He said in America that if things didn't improve for himself when
we came home, he'd leave, so it wasn't like we just arrived on his
doorstep and said, 'you're fired', or anything."
Darragh added:"We got back and said,'What are you going to do about
that leaving thing?' and he just kind of said 'Yeah.'"
Billy Played Guitar on both the albums, although how much on the second
is anybodies guess as he only gets a credit as 'with'... (ie, The other
the got listed as being Kerbdog, with Billy Dalton (guitars) and Roy Z
(guitars).)
As far as I know Roy Z (credited on 'On the turn' for Guitars) is the
only other person to have played on any Kerbdog releases. My sources
indicate he is a Producer, (and was therefore just a guest artist.)

1.2 Q: Can I have a short history of Kerbdog?
A: Formed sometime in the early 90's, Kerbdog was the product of 4
school friends. Originally called (among other things??)
Rollercoaster, they started out as your standard pub covers band,
usually covering songs by the Pixies, Husker Du, The Jam, The Wedding
Present (among others). Then taking the name of a BMX team, they
became 'Kerbdog'. During 1992 recorded their breakthrough demo (some
of which made up their debut single - Earthworks), they lived in
London for a year, and toured all over the UK (and parts of the rest
of the world) with bands including Therapy?, Ministry (good choice?)
and Helmet. In 1993 they recorded their Debut album (self
titled), with vetran Seatle producer Jack Endino. In 1996 they
recorded their second album, which was delayed and wasn't released
until over a year later. They were dropped by their record company in
about August 1997 and carried on as Kerbdog until March 1998.
Battle and Darragh are now in a fine band called Wilt.

1.3 Q: What about the rest of the Irish music scene??
A: Check out, Therapy?, Pet Lamb, Wilt :- they are a good place to
start.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

2 Q: What do they sound like?
A: That's hard to define in words. The best description I ever heard
was 'Therapy? meets Helmet' of 'Metal/indie'. Some music journos
insist that they're grungy.. I beg to differ, as a former grunger.
Nirvana was another incorrect parallel.. as if.
As to what style they play, that's tough too. They have been
described as Punk, Punk/Metal, Dodgy Metal (by NME), Indie/Metal,
Hardcore (as in Punk, NYHC/LAHC), and many more.

2.1 Q: A description of Kerbdogs music.
A: That's a very good question. Early Kerbdog (circa their debut album)
is quite heavy. If I had to draw comparisons from my own personal
CD collection, I'd have to say, TAD circa INHALER is about the closest,
but by no means the best comparison. The music is fairly simplistic,
but is dynamic. It has tempo changes and unusual timing measures. In a
way it's kind of metallica-ry, but not so much as to be thrash metal.
It's a new sound. Someone's going to jump on me here and say 'oh they
sound like XXXX who were around way before them'.. but to me it's
original.
On their new album the sound can be best described as a redifinition of
the above. Whilst still keeping with the general dynamics of their old
material, their new songs are by far more catchy and definatly much more
melodic. Commercially this album should do better. The sound is old
school Kerbdog mixed with Therapy? meets Helmet nods towards the
Pixies, as well as other bands too numerous to mention.

2.2 Q: What about A discography?
A: There is no official Kerbdog discography. There is very little
information available about their releases at all. I have
pieced together a discography of their singles, although it may not
be full, or even fully correct. The latest version is below.

2.3 Q: Where can I find Lyrics/Tabs for their tunes?
A: For Tabs, try OLGA (use any search engine and query 'OLGA Tabs
guitar')Unfortunately most OLGA (all I've found so far) only have SCRAM.

An alternative is to check my page:
http://www.interalpha.net/customer/memsom/tab.htm
I have a few, and will be adding some as soon as I get time.

Surf to:
http://www.mcs.dundee.ac.uk:8080/~sgarvin/tabs.htm
Where a multitude of tabs are now waiting to be looked at!!

Lyrics are found on Damian Penston's site as well as my own.

2.4 Q: What are their musical Influences?
A: A friend of mine actually asked Cormac this question when he
interviewed him recently and he go the following answer 'Husker Du,
Pixies, Helmet'...
You can probably add Therapy? to that list, and to a lesser extent all
the bands which they have covered songs by.

2.5 Q: Have they any Film credits/collaborations?
A: YES!! Film wise, their cover of PIL's 'This is not a love song' was
included on the soundtrack (and album) of
'Tales from the crypt: Bordello of Blood'. Also 'Dummy Crusher' was
included on the soundtrack of 'Highlander 3: The Sorcerer'
They also re-mixed a House of pain song:
"KILKENNY GUITAR-ABUSERS Kerbdog have been drafted in to remix one
of the tracks on House Of Pain's upcoming Same As It Ever Was EP.
The guys were given the master of 'Running Up On Ya' and told to
basically
do anything they wanted with it," explains manager Merc Mercuriadis.
"They took 'em at their word and more or less ditched everything apart
from the vocal track. Possibly I'm biased but with the guitars and
drums added, I think it's a far better version than the original. I
know the band are dead chuffed because it's the first time they've been
asked to do this sort of thing and it's turned out so well."

3. Q: So, what else do we know about them?
A: Quite a bit. Here is a direct draft of my 14 exciting (??!??) facts
about Kerbdog, from my page
(www.interalpha.net/customer/memsom/fax.htm):
1.Cormac Battle plays his guitar left-handed, but with the strings the
right way around for a right hander, so he actually plays everything
upside-down.
2.The name Kerbdog was 'borrowed' from a BMX team called the KERBDOGS.
3.They spent a year living in London (late 92-93) honeing their craft.
4.All of the songs on the debut album were written before they were
signed!!
Says Darragh, "It was written to play in our local, for everyone to go
mental to, and that was it.."
5.Kerbdog's fav bands include Husker Du, Helmet and the Pixies..
6.Cormac Battle says that the band they most enjoyed touring with was
THERAPY?
(in '94.)
7.They've said "We piss on everything that's out there", and the spooky
thing is that they do..
8.Whilst recording 'on the turn' they hung out with many celebs
(allegedly) including: Zack de la Rock (RATM) Dave Grohl (the foos) and
Madonna(?!?!)
9.Of their debut album magazines at the time said:
"There's no aires or graces with the 'dog. Just a full on appropriation
of everything that is good in the musical climate of '94 ~ KKKK ~
Killer Kerrang!"
"An astonishing collection bereft of pretention & destined for the
stratosphere ~ XXXXX ~ RAW (rip)"
"Kerbdog are the most fun and ferocious band to come clawing out of
Ireland since Therapy? .. ~ Melody Maker"
The Kerbdog and Wilt FAQ
10.They could well become the new Nirvana comercially, as the same
formula
is there.. Super heavy 1st album makes way for long awaited
melodious/poppy 2nd album, ie. Bleach is to 'Kerbdog' as Nevermind is to
'On the turn'
11.They're all still pretty young, in their mid 20's.
12.They formed in sometime during 1992. At first they were called
'Rollercoaster', and were mainly a covers band of late 80's Alt music
(eg. Pixies, HuskerDu, Stiff Little Fingers)
13.The current tour is their first major one for years.."In some places
we're expecting to play to 10 people and a dog, but so long as Mutley
enjoys it, I dont care" - Cormac Battle.
14.Radio 1FM's Simon Mayo likes them.. after getting a promo of Mexican
wave from Cormacs brother (Michael???), he made it his Big Single and
played it every day for a week.
15.Cormac's favourite scooby doo character is Thelma (wonder why that
is??)

3.1: Q Other internet resources?

related pages.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

4.0: Q Who are Wilt, and where do they come from?
A: Wilt is to be the new guise of former Kerbdog Singer/guitarist
Cormac Battle, and drummer Darragh Butler. Mick Murphy (a school
friend) joins them on Bass.

4.1: Q What happened to Kerbdog?
A: After Kerbdog's long battle (lol - irony) with obscurity,
Colin has decided to leave Kerbdog. This move has lead to Cormac
and Darragh forming Wilt. I believe that this was mainly because
they didnt want to continue on as Kerbdog without Colin. Maybe
also to distance themselves from their previous bad form.
They played their last ever gig 7/3/98 at the Dublin Mean Fiddler.

4.2: Q Why did Colin leave?
A: Colin probably became anoyed/dis-heartened when On the Turn failed
to make much impact. This was mainly due to the extreme bad handling
Kerbdog got at the hands of Mercury. He is/will return to his degree
in some sort of Engineering at a well known University in Dublin.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

5.0: Q What will they sound like?
A: Whilst Wilt sound like Kerbdog in many ways, they also have a very
original sound. They draw heavily on influences such as 'Husker Du',
'The Pixies' rather than 'Helmet' and Emocore. Over all the sound is
very accessable, and will have far greater commercial success than
Kerbdog. The music is more in the line of Silver Sun, Symposium (later
material) and pop/punk bands that are currently doing well in the
alternative charts.

5.1: Q When will singles/albums be released??
A: The latest single – double A side 'It's all over now' was released
18/10/99 Album 'Bastinado' will be released early 2000. Album samplers
are making the rounds.
