I write drumnbass/jump-up. I use Impulsetracker and I generally stay away from

i can see that. do you also produce drumnbass/jump-up? in case you do, you
might have noticed jump-up died a long time ago, but hey, if you're
nostalgic, be my guest.

good luck. i KNOW there are a lot of really good labels out there that mail
everybody who posts on this NG because they have no one to produce tunes. i
bet that if you check your e-mail right now, you'll find mails from Ram, V,
Full Cycle, Renegade, Renegade Hardware, Hard Leaders,... and even
Metalheadz.

and yeah, keep on using Impulsetracker... what does that run on... Dos?
ZX81? c64? Linux? just don't use windows progs; they will never get you
signed on any label because they'll make you look amateurish... wait a
second... what's your provide? AOL?

Hmm, I see one jungle tune on your page, and after listening I think you
should consider trying a new way to produce music as the sound quality is
very poor. The beats were also the only thing in the song, and they were
incredibly loose and really sloooooow. If your gonna dis windows programs
(reason? cubase? huh?) I think you should maybe try one first. You would
prolly be able to come up with better results.

I may sound harsh, but you have to listen to your own music and compare it
to what is out if you are gonna be asking for labels to check you out. If
you do, I think you might agree that you have a lot to work on.

So do I tho...which made this easy to say. I am not gonna be soliciting
labels actively for a long time, until I have something to show that is
comparable to the music i love. But whateva...

NOW, as for Jump-Up being dead you guys...what the fuck? Maybe my definition
is skewed, but what the hell would you call true playaz stuff? Even most
full cycle stuff? What is the actual definition of jump-up?

what i meant that i just want larger distribution for my music, and im going
step by step instead of taking a bootlicking attitude and being all 'please
pick me' with the larger labels. seems like most of the larger labels have the
popstar images, and the listeners attach some sort of aura to a bunch of geeks
with drum machines, tight logo tshirts, and baseball caps... im not sure i'd
wanna be released by labels that consider a constant 2-step rhythm and a silly
filtered bassline to be enough for a song... i just wanna own my own record,
without paying for the pressing.

If you want to own your own record, I think you need to work on your
production skills, friend. Don't let the world convince you that promotion
is everything...It's about skills. The music you are making isn't
professional quality, at all. I tried the constructive criticism before, but
now it's harsh reality time: If getting a record is that important to you,
maybe you should cut a dub, cause it's not gonna happen if you don't improve
upon what you are doing right now in a big way.

And don't dis filtered basslines on a jungle list, cripes.

Fair point - but it's a stepping stone man - do your research - there are
loads of more "versatille" labels out there (Hospital Records) - or try
sending your stuff to some DISTRIBUTION companies; they're responsible for
many labels of all genres - surely your tunes will fit in
somewhere............ ;)

> for a song...

IT'S A TRACK!!!!! NOT A SONG!!!! This music isn't about Songs man!
(well occasionally it can be, and once in a while it is nice...........) but
generally it's TRACKS ;)

>i just wanna own my own record, without paying for the pressing.

trivial waste of time. sure its cute, but its all words.
i posted that i was wondering if any labels were looking for demos, and i did
get responses (posted on several lists). if theses drive-by posts are so
frequent, then it should be natural for you to ignore them. you replied with
caustic remarks and cute wordgames. made yourself look clever, yes, also
portayed you as a cynical smart-alec who pounces on flaws and shortcomings, and

as far as i know, jungle was the breaks with high pitched vocals (caaaan yoou
feeel it) and piano melodies. then on the b-side of the records was the
drumnbass mix , which was basically just the drum and the bass. out of all the
hallucinogens came the dark style. i guess that ventually people realized that
keeping a steady rhythm is ok, so jump up and hardstep came out, tho ive never
been able to figure out what hardstep is. then theres intelligent (for people
afraid of dancing), tech-step (heavy metal college nerds/web designers),
jump-tek (aforementioned wearing gangsta outfits, at least in america),
tek-jump, jump-jump, neurofunk, neuro-elbow, elbow-funk-jump-tek-brillo,
splatterbreaks, and playing the record at 33rpm, + OUtkast "B.O.B" and Missy
"Getcha freak on."..two tracks i think hint at a real merging of drumnbass and
popular rap culture..

Reinforced have recently signed a total of 18 new
artists and none of them were/are bootlickers.

Some of them had NO releases to their name.
But their sound was Reinforced.

Why?
Because they dig the R, yet don't simply
copy a Reinforced sound, they innovate it.

That's what the R see's.

That's what the R signs.

and Reinforced Records are still a minor label.

So your fucking logic sticks, Mr Spock

"OuchMyEIbow" <ouchm...@aol.com> wrote

A lil' bit whee, a lil' bit whoo, a lil' bit dark, a lil' bit deadly with

extension of a vibe which has taken the music globally wider. Yet, that
isn't one of the reasons that jungle caught my ear. I didn't look for it,
nor did it seek me. We met during the zeitgeist... Peace Love and Unity

was always a soundtrack for Hackney and East London. Sadly Hackney
& East London now means that my dad can live in a council house while
next door the same house sells for 3/4 of a million £ ... I can see the same
evolution within the jungle music scene. Your statement above makes you

Ever heard of soul music? The music doesn't have a SOUL as such as......it's
just soulful music - all about vibes/feelings/colours man - most recent
Marcus Intalex/4 Hero/Calibre stuff is some of what I'd class as soulful
Drum'n'Bass etc................."sounds of blackness" ;)

But just because something is soulful doesn't neccesarily make it good
(although it does make it nicer) and just because it isn't soulful doesn't
make it bad......................right, I'll get me coat and get back to
MODPlug.... ;)
