do you guys like or dislike how jp canges their style all the time?

i dont personnally, i wish they would stay with the defenders or painkiller
style, instead of changing all the time, i mean put in british steel or
british steel part 2(piont of entry) and then put in jugulaor and turbo,
its like 3 different bands,

here are my fav priest albums

painkiller
stained class
sceamin
defenders
ram it down

worst ones(overated ones)

british steel
hell bent
sin after sin
point of entry
rocka rolla

That's what makes them so great. At least one of the reasons. Show me
any other band that is so proficient and talented that they can play any
style, morph themselves from album to album, and kick ass no matter what
they play. My tendency is say I prefer they stick to Painkiller. But
then I listen to SFV or Defenders or Unleashed and I stop thinking like
that.

Pat, I appreciate your opinions. But I note you draw your worst/ best JP
releases right through the 70's/ 80's . Exception being the Stained
Class / POE juggle. I gotta jump in on "Ram It Down" being one of your
faves, and "Sin After Sin" being one of your worst. I think the
opposite. "Ram It Down" was a record company contracted blob! Every
major recording artist chucks a blob out there sometimes. The Dave
Holland drum machine. The un-inspired, politically corrected themes of
the lyrics. C'mon Pat, "Monsters Of Rock" compared to "The Sinner"??? No
comparo!

I still get goose bumps on the intro to "Call for the Priest". I stand
tall with right fist extended. This was the 70's and technology did not
exist to even make CD's! So I'ts gonna sound a bit old! But Pat, "The
Sinner" is Jay fricking Pee! It was the old farts like me and Jer out
here who saw them open up for bands like KISS and UFO. We saw "The
Sinner" live and said "Hey, this opening band is gonna be somebody
someday!" And yes Bek, that song has 10 minutes of KK playing with his
trem-bar while his goldilocks fly in the breeze. (tee-hee).

Whoa....... carful Stoshus! Bek just may have to kick your ass for some
of those comments! Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

I have heard a few rumors here and there about drum machines on Ram it
Down and Turbo. Does anyone have any concrete info regarding this?

Jer

P.S. I'm not that old yet..... I'll be 26 later this year. I got into
Priest in 3rd grade! Just before Screaming For Vengeance came out. I
remember buying it on LP for $8.00!!!! I had a Fisher Price record
player! NO SHIT! I SWEAR ITS TRUE!!!!!! I love all of the albums though
and listen to every one of them. I consider msyelf an old Priest fan.

Zowie! I'm just getting home now and reading the group. What fun! The
opinions expressed by Mr. Strzyzewski DO NOT neccessarily reflect the
opinon of alt.music.JP. Had to get that out of the way. I gave "The
Sinner" honorable mention for the KK work, dearest. Now THERE is the
song I wanna see them bring back again! It used to be such a live song
mainstay throughout the years. Every time I got a live JP bootleg, I
would wanna hear "Da Sinnah!!!

Concerning a drum machine on at least Ram It Down, consider the "drums" on
"Blood Stained", er, "Blood Red Skies". Don't get me wrong, it's perhaps my
favorite song on the "Ram It Down" album, but I'm pretty sure that's a drum
machine.

Shit yes. That was my biggest complaint after seeing them twice in
February. I COULD NOT believe that song was left out. That is a MUST
PLAY classic song. They have to bring it back. I also want them to play
Rack Hard, Ride Free.

If a drum machine was not used on the entire Ram It Down album, I will
buy a Hanson album. NO drums sound like that naturally.

One thing to note about "Rock Hard Ride Free" is that it's a much better song
than the over-rated Kiss song "I Wanna Rock N Roll All Nite". What would be
nice are select dates where they play a different set of songs but then again,
this idea is terrible if you attended and didn't hear the songs you wanted to
hear...it's like attending a Priest show expecting to hear "Beyond the Realms
of Death" and them not performing it.

I was very disappointed that they didn't perform "Cathedral Spires" but at
eights minutes plus, I can see why they didn't perform it. At the 2/2 gig at
the 9:30 after the show, the speakers did played the recorded version so I
guess I can't really complain. :-)

They played Cathedral Spires after the show in Chicago too..... I think
they did that at all of the shows.....

Does anyone know why they did a taped version of The Hellion?

They also played Cathedral Spires after the show in Philadelphia.
Maybe they used a taped Hellion to build up the audiences anticipation,
knowing what was next, but you couldn't see them yet. Just as Iron
Maiden did on the Powerslave tour (taped Aces High intro). Also, I think
they use 3 guitars on the Hellion...... so a taped version might sound
better live. ( just a thought)
I think it was fine the way it was.
As far as songs they should bring back and/or start doing here's my
list:
solar angels
exciter
all guns blazing
running wild
genocide / tyrant
steeler
rapid fire
burnin' up
before the dawn ( what do you think, yes, no ???)
parental guidance (just kidding)
paint it black ( the way it is on Glenn's solo)
starbreaker
thats all I can think of now

Yeah, Good idea. They could do some sort of 'unplugged' thing.
Here's a scenario... An oldies set - up to '79. An unplugged
intermission kinda thing. A post-oldies (newies??) set.
Whaddaya think? Good idea or have I had too many Pabst Blue Ribbons?

As much as I like "Before the Dawn" seriously...

I think its one of the "Rob Halford" songs. I don't think Tim could give
it the same feeling that Rob did. I also don't think it would fit into
the live set.

Great song though,

WHOA!!! Does this mean all songs recorded by Rob Halford when he was in JP?
Fact is, Rob was a major part of the group and still is to some effect --
Ripper is able to fit Rob's shoes because of his vocals. Try singing in
Rob/Ripper's styles, believe me, that is difficult.

I don't believe they played Cathedral Spires anywhere. Patrik Westlund's
Metal Painkiller site had reviews from almost every show. And none of
then spoke of Cathedral Spires being on the set list. If they did play
it anywhere I imagine it would have been in Europe near then end of the
tour. Hopefully if that is true we'll see it on 98 Live Meltdown.

Read my message again! I mentioned that I couldn't really complain about
"Cathedral Spires" not being played since the RECORDED version was played via
the 9:30 club's PA after the show... Before I went to the 2/2 show, I even
printed out a sign that said "Play Cathedral Spires" and right around when they
started letting people enter the 9:30 club, Ripper appeared out of a door
toward the end of the line and started signing autographs and... I pulled out
the sign but alas, the group didn't perform the song.
