Ok, big thrash day today.

Coroner-Mental Vortex
Slayer-CI
Overkill-Killbox 13
Dark Tranquillity-The Mind's I
Megadeth-Endgame

Ian probably will like this list this time.

comment, as I am sure he's probably seen/heard this by now.

Although you don't like them, I finally picked up Mastodon's
Remission CD. I know I kept saying I'd get it when I tired of each
album, but I kept listening to the new albums until the next one was
released, and just never got to it.

So, playlist the next couple days

Mastodon-Remission
Overkill-Immortalis
Metal Church-This Present Wasteland
Metal for the Masses #8.

Which reminds me, sometime back CM had some promo album for download
that I downloaded and never listened to. Guess I'll try to get to that
as well.

Remission is a fantastic album. My favorite Mastodon cycles between
it, Leviathan and the new one almost daily (pretty much whichever one
I'm listening to at the time).

What an odd year.

A Megadeth release that comes very close to AOTY, a savagely awesome
Kreator album that may not even make top 5, a solid Slayer release
that just doesn't click for me, and a mainstream rock/metal album that
dominated the last couple months of the year.

I would have never guess that the AiC album would have garnered so

Typing `Dark` into Encyclopedia Metallum gives 1,039 results which edges out
`Death` on 984. Probably the 2 most over-used words in metal bands names.
There`s even a band that go for all out cliche and call themselves `Dark
Morbid Death`!

This Darkspace are awesome...a right old racket.

I'm surprised. We need about 50-60 new bands to use Death and get
that to #1!

Dark Morbid Fallen Angel Death would rule.

Don`t forget Metal, Satan, Odin and Warrior. How about Odin`s Metal

The 2nd and 3rd albums are godly. Easily the best grindcore band ever...I`d
put Morbid Angel and Death above them in general death metal terms...and
possibly early Deicide, Atheist and Possessed.

Yeah, I like simple one name for bands. It's easier than what some
of the new bands are going with. I know looking over that CM sampler,
they've got a band called Arsonists get all the girls or something
like that. I don't really care for much of what CM has these days. 5
years ago or so, I liked almost all CM releases.
I guess there's always Nuclear Blast.

Nuclear Blast of Death. There's the band name.

Ah, yes, the typical comment. It seems like always the case the
album that makes a band better known is always a lessor album.
(providing they don't break big with the first album.)
Of course, breaking big and DA seems a misplaced qualifier. I don't
think they ever really made it big.

The Fye near my house finally put some stuff on a sale. At a price I
don't mind. CD's $9.99, $11.99 and $12.99. For a lot of them. Which is
miles better than the $17.99, and higher prices they usually have.
Of course if they were to close it would reduce the places where you
can buy new CD's in town to about 4. At least new CD's in a wide
selection.
I keep wondering how the local owned shop is able to keep their
doors open. I guess it may be because they own their building
outright, if they had to pay rent, I sort of doubt they'd be here now.
Of course they are the place I've bought probably 90% of the CD's
and other music platforms I bought over the past 25 plus years.

I wouldn't say that's typical at all.

Most DA fans think Act III is their best, while the diehards say it's
second only to the Ultraviolence.

I just happen to prefer Frolic to Act III by some distance, because I
liked the band best when they were pure manic energy, and Frolic they
had that going in spades.

I didn't mean you, I meant it seems like a lot of people talk about
bands it's always they were good until x album, which is usually 1st,
2nd or 3rd album, and then they turned to crap.

I know what you meant, and I really won't buy unless it is less than
$15 or so. Because I know most of the record labels I buy stuff from
(CM/NB/MB/CL) are all usually $12.49 at the local shop. Not the local
Fye, the local mom & pop shop.

I understand this. It's often the case with most bands, the more and
more albums they do, it's harder to top previous works. Of course, PK

Or, in the case of Death Angel, the early stuff gets re-issued cheaply in
mass produced boxsets...

You can buy the remaster boxset of the first 2 DA albums ( including
bonus/live and DVD material ) quite easily and cheaply nowadays.

I just find it surprising that someone into thrash in the 80`s wouldn`t have
heard the first DA album. It was hyped up at the time and quickly recognised
as a classic of the genre.

I didn't know it had been re-issued. Perhaps I will buy it sometime
soon. Unlike some, I don't see much for the first several months of
2010 I feel like I need. Overkill and Triptykon are all I see at the
moment.

I have a pretty big collection of Thrash metal albums from the 80's.
I guess some bands I just didn't get into on their first albums.
Either that, the hype I didn't hear of, or see. Or maybe it was just I
was so into the bigger Thrash bands at the time that some of the other
bands didn't get a chance.
So, of course, Metallica, Slayer, Anthrax, Megadeth, Exodus,
Testament, Forbidden, Death Angel, Wrathchild America, Metal Church,
all the albums I had by these bands got a lot of plays. Others like
Dark Angel, Kreator, maybe I like more today than I did then.
