I wish him the best, heavy, the heavy metal world needs him!!
I've got to proof read before I hit enter/send.
I hope that they caught this early enough, and treatment works and
he's around for many more years.
Tom
Sad news. Dio has brought so much joy into my life for the last 30
years, it would be a personal loss if he was to leave this world
early.
Agreed.
Tom
While I do think he's well past his prime, there are few people on the
planet more METAL than Dio. The man is an icon.
And while obviously I wouldn't wish something as awful as stomach
cancer on *anyone*, it sucks doubly because it happened to an awesome
human being like him.
He'll pull through ... he has to!

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but people diagnosed with stomach
cancer are lucky to survive for 5 years and that is if he is in the
early stages. It's also possible if caught early enough he could get
surgery that could extend his life, but it's most likely very sad news
and the end of the legendary Dio's career. It's good he went out on
somewhat of a high note with Heaven and Hell.

Well, fuck.
Time to spin some Elf, Rainbow, Sabbath and Dio.

>Well, fuck.
Well, it is in the early stages by all accounts. How old is Dio? Another 5
years would probably put him well into his 70`s.

Well, just saw that Vinnie's been off to have surgery and Tony as
well. The whole band is about sidelined.
The news about Dio is the worst though.

67 by what I've seen. To be that metal at 67 is hard to believe.
Tom
Not necessarily. A lot of times they don't discover the cancer until
it's already progressed into the middle or later stages. I hope he
makes a recovery and I am not wishing him away or anything, but I the
prognosis is not good. I certainly wouldn't want the doctor to tell
me I had it.
Speaking of doctors, it seems even on this group we've all been in sad
shape this year. I had to go in for what I thought was a cavity
(albeit extremely excruciating one) and ended up having a root canal
which didnt take, my face puffed up and I been in a percuset haze all
week. Haven't left the house except to go to the pharmacy. I'm
seeing the dentist for the 4th time in a week tomorrow and hoping I
can get back to reality, despite alienating my dog, becoming a master
at Mario Kart and killing a lot of people in Call of Duty Modern
Warfare 2 I am starting to feel like a hermit. You know when you
start skimming through the "on-demand" section of cable looking for
movies that you need to get out!!!! LOL
Anyway, at least I have some good metal to listen. Anyone have
Skaldic Curse's "World Suicide Machine?" it's the soundtrack to my
misery :-)
I hope your dentist can sort out the problem, and you get back to
normal. Well, as normal as you can be. :)

UPDATE and good news:
Legendary heavy metal singer Ronnie James Dio (DIO, HEAVEN & HELL,
BLACK SABBATH, RAINBOW) was diagnosed with the early stages of stomach
cancer and is currently receiving treatment at the Mayo Clinic. His
wife/manager Wendy Dio has issued the following update on Ronnie's
condition:
"Well, it has been a very exhausting month. After all the never-ending
tests in Los Angeles, we flew to the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota, and as
soon as we arrived, we got a call from the MD Anderson Hospital that
they had an appointment for us with the doctor we originally wanted,
so we then flew to Houston to the clinic, and, of course, MORE tests,
but Ronnie finished receiving his first chemo treatment on Wednesday,
and all is going very well.
"I would like to thank Tony Martell from the T.J. Martell Foundation,
Dr. Stuart Aaronson from Mount Sinai, Lindsay Brown and Mike Carden
from Eagle Records, and our very own Dr. Sandeep Kapoor, for all your
help in getting us into MD Anderson, and also our friends Geezer and
Gloria Butler, who flew to Houston to be with Ronnie while he had his
chemo.
"Ronnie and I are totally overwhelmed by the amount of well wishes
that we have received from friends and fans — we are reading them all.
Some make us laugh, some make us cry, but all of them are so filled
with love that it gives us so much support and makes Ronnie even more
determined to fight this battle and win.
"Thank you all for the positive energy and prayers."
According to a posting on the BLACK SABBATH fan site Black-
Sabbath.com, fans can send get-well cards to Ronnie James Dio through
the official fan club address:
Dio Fan Club
12400 Ventura Boulevard, Suite 624
Studio City, CA
91604
Additionally, if you'd like to send an email to Ronnie, you can do so
via getwel...@black-sabbath.com. After a short time, Black-
Sabbath.com webmaster Joe Siegler will print them out and pass them
over to Ronnie and Wendy Dio.
Dio, 67, has performed with ELF, RAINBOW, BLACK SABBATH, and his own
band DIO. Other musical projects include the collective fundraiser
"Hear 'n Aid". He is widely hailed as one of the most powerful singers
in heavy metal, renowned for his consistently powerful voice and for
popularizing the "devil's horns" hand gesture in metal culture. He is
currently involved with HEAVEN & HELL, a project which also includes
Iommi and other former BLACK SABBATH bandmates Geezer Butler and Vinny
Appice. Their first studio album, "The Devil You Know", was released
on April 28, 2009.
