Anyone else think that the Radio 1 live version of Burning Of The Midnight Lamp
is far superior in every way to the Ladyland version. I know that Jimi has
stated in interviews that he felt the song was recorded poorly and always meant
to do it over, and I think that the Radio 1 version is more along the lines of
what he would have done had he rerecorded it.

Actually, Jimi was referring to the track as it first appeared on the A-side
of a single. After the Radio One recording (which is also great, don't get
me wrong), Jimi remixed the song (including some new overdubs if I'm not
mistaken) and re-released it as part of Electric Ladyland. He was quite
satisfied with that version; it was the earlier single version he
disliked...

opposed to the ELL version sounded?

Yeah, I don't think it was very different... On ELL he tried to make the
sound "cleaner", as he felt that it was too muffled on the single version.
To be honest, I can't really tell much difference between the two.
