Hey fans, just wondering why there has never been a release of "Rainbow
Bridge" on CD yet? I've got some of the songs on other cd's and they did a
movie,ect... but, there doesn't seem to be a cd? Just wondering. You'd
think it would have done well. Later, Cliff

I've got one. Its an import of course(unofficial of course), but it sounds
excellent. I would love to see it on cd, but with the recent
reissues/repackaging I doubt it will see the light of day anytime soon

It was made to look like a Jap import but it
was a bootleg. I got it. It doesn't sound too good.

The reason there was never an official CD release of this album is strictly
due to the ego of Alan Douglas. This was one of the works that was put
together by Eddie Kramer in the wake of Jimi's death, before Alan weaseled
his way into the mix. Since he'd had nothing to do with the making of the
original album, he had no interest in seeing it re-issued (as opposed to
something like Crash Landing, where he actually claimed a co-writing credit
on several songs)... in any case, all the songs on Rainbow Bridge are
available on either First Rays or South Saturn Delta, with the exception of
the studio version of "Star Spangled Banner" and "Hear My Train a-Comin,"
which is on the Blues CD...

Actually, there has been a release of Rainbow Bridge on cd, albeit not
a legit one. I have it on "Red Robin" records, ROB-1021.

The original concert of Rainbow Bridge recorded live at Haleakla Crater, Maui
is available on a bootleg. Look for Rainbow Bridge 2.

Although most bootlegs refer to this concert as being performed in the
crater of Haleakala volcano, the fact is that the concert actually
occurred close to Seabury Hall (the school is still there, up the hill
from Makawao). If you've ever been all the way up the highway to the
actual crater, you'll realize that there's absolutely no way that a
concert could have been staged in the crater itself! Watch the film and
you'll see that the audience and the stage are in a grassy field.

And yes, Rainbow Bridge 2 is GREAT!

Keep on rockin',
Colin
