Jim Croce's uncle, Pat Croce, passed away this morning at 11:50 a.m. Pat
was the brother of Jim's father and was NOT Philadelphia 76ers President Jim
Pat Croce, who is no relation to Jim.

Uncle Pat was a wild and crazy guy and only 10 years older than Jim, so
he was not the traditional uncle. Yet, he was an undeniable presence in the
close-knit Croce family. A great fan of Frank Sinatra, Pat was thrilled upon
learning that Sinatra had recorded "Bad, Bad Leroy Brown." He was also upset
to learn that Pat Croce of the 76ers had visited Ingrid Croce in San Diego,
claiming to be a cousin, when he (Uncle Pat) was THE Pat Croce in Jim's
family and life.

R.I.P. Pasquale Croce (1932 - 2000).

Sorry, but I got the name of the 76ers president wrong in my original post.
It's Pat Croce, not Jim Pat Croce. Here is the corrected post:

Jim Croce's uncle, Pat Croce, passed away this morning at 11:50 a.m. Pat was

the brother of Jim's father and was NOT Philadelphia 76ers President Pat

I met Pat Croce on the OCNJ Boardwalk when I was a kid. I asked him if and how he and Jim Croce were related. He said that his father and Jim's father were cousins (maybe second-third cousins).
