Jethro Tull - Toronto June 18th 2010

I don't usually go to newsgroups and make comments but I'm baffled as
to why little or nothing about this is mentioned - but Ian Anderson
cannot sing anymore.

I have read that Anderson has had throat problems in the past but
Friday's show exposed the fact that he can't carry/hold a note
anymore, he sounds short of breath and barely rises above talking his
way through each song. Singing and simultaneously waving your hand
beside your head still doesn't distract the audience (or this person)
to the fact that the voice still sounds bad.

"Songs From The Wood" was particularly appalling - they dropped the
group a capella part both at the opening and midway through the song I
assume because Ian can't sing properly and it appears no else in the
band can sing either. The song was a mess even when Ian was able to
stay on key. Give this one amiss guys....

Anderson struggled all night. "A New Day Yesterday" was dropped to a
lower key to give the singer some help. Things weren't made any
easier by the fact that a great deal of the set was made up of quieter
folky material - playing louder material has a habit of covering a lot
of vocal sins.

On another note - standing on one leg during flute solos now looks
sorta ridiculous in a plain pair of pants instead of the famed tights
or riding pants.

Anyway, I did have fun at the show, despite my head shaking in
disbelief that many of the songs were being vocally butchered. (I
really have no need to mention the pluses of this or any recent Tull
gigs as they can be viewed elsewhere on other forums)

Typical of Toronto crowds, no one got off their ass until "Locomotive
Breathe" during the encore.
