I believe the fomation with Doane Perry, Andy Giddings and Jonathan
Noyce was the longest-running formation in Tull history. I don't know
if Andy and Jonathan ever played live with James Duncan, but they appear
together on the Jethro Tull Christmas Album. At some point, David
Goodier and John O'Hara replaced Andy Giddings and Jonathan Noyce. I'm
not sure exactly why; they moved in via Ian's orchestral shows. Since
then, they are now the current members. Doane has always been the
official drummer, but Duncan fills in from time to time, usually for
one-off shows as opposed to a tour. For instance, I saw the new boys
together with Duncan at a festival in Germany in 2007 or so.
So, these days, you get John and David and usually Doane but sometimes
James. For Tull shows. For Ian Anderson shows, usually no Martin
Barre, no Doane Perry but David and John and James. (Except when he
can't make it; last December we saw an Ian Anderson show with a jazz
drummer (and Florian Opahle on guiter).)
