I just wanted to add my comments to those of us here that have already
visited this band's IMPRESSIVE web site.

Let me just say, that I downloaded and listened to a couple of the MP3 files
that Rick and the Puddle Jumpers have listed below and I was BLOWN AWAY!
These guys are incredible players and songwriters!

I have been a major Tull fan since the mid-seventies when I heard "A Passion
Play" at a party. I was hooked and have followed their musical wanderings
ever since. One thing that I always wished more bands would do was to
integrate the Celtic/folk and Progressive Rock elements more as Jethro Tull
has done so well.

I am here to tell ya! The Puddle Jumpers should make Ian a proud Papa!
Although the Tull influence is obvious to people like us, it doesn't jump
out and bite you in the ass. Its subtle and offers the same intellectual
qualities that I love so much about Mr. Anderson's song writing skills. Now
don't get upset since I know this is a Tull newsgroup. But I wanted to
impress upon those out there who may be looking for some cool new music in
the Tull like genre`, you really need to check these guys out!

I have ordered both CDs from one of the group's online retailers, so when
they arrive I will let you know if they can hold my level of excitement that
I got from their web site and their free MP3 files.

Stay Tuned.

Hopefully being Tull a fan isn't making anyone *less* open to other
music and ideas. That would be most *un*-Tull-like!

Hello Jerra,

You really owe it to yourself to check into MP3 files. The quality is nearly
as good as a CD. "I detect a little fuzziness on the high end," but the
accessibility is unsurpassed! Although I don't support the use of MP3 files
as a way to pirate music and the royalties away from the artist who created
them, I have found them a great way to find out about new bands and
songwriters. This new group we have been talking about "The Puddle Jumpers"
are offering some of their album cuts for FREE using this medium. I felt
very comfortable in ordering their music after I could hear how good they
sounded on the MP3 files. The CD will be even better!

I am afraid I don't know much about them either, other than the fact that
they are REALLY GOOD! I did type their name into AltaVista just to see what
would come up, and I was surprised by the amount of hits that came up for
them. They are obviously very good at promoting themselves on the net. But
the fact that none of us had heard of them before shows you how BIG the net
really is!

I emailed them at their info address and asked to be put on their mailing
list. They replied with a very nice "PERSONAL" message which is always
nice. They say that they are really in it for the music and they apparently
seem content to stay an indie band? Must be really hard to get a major
record deal these days I guess.

Hope this helps answer your questions.

P.S. This may become a duplicate message since I am trying to find a decent
PUBLIC NEWS server that updates their messages at least once a day! I may
have to break down and PAY for a more reliable one.

Ahhh Yes! I had been meaning to ask you about that. I saw your message
today that you had also ordered their two CDs.

Clive Bunker SOLO album? When was that released?

I must say that this news group is interesting to read off different
servers. Some of the messages I have replied to on one server are not even
there in this group off another server? I find myself dancing around the
servers trying to see all the replies! :-(

Is there ONE server that keeps better tabs on everyone's input?

Hello Dez,

Thank you for this thourough explanation!!! I guess I am just going to have
to get off my butt and start getting me some of these MP3 files. I have
found a couple of web sites that have some players. What player do you use
on your computer?

Did you see that another person from this group beat you to the punch and
has already received some CDs from the Puddle Jumpers? ;o) It sounds like
we may be hearing a report soon from him, but I would still like to hear
what you think too.

Thanks for being so generous with your knowledge of the MP3 file issue!

We plan to start checking them out this weekend when we get some time to
install a player and download some songs.

Did you know about a site called MP3NOW? They seem to have a whole bunch of
links to other sites there. I am sure you already knew that right? ;0)

Jerra.

I use Deja News to back up and catch the ones I may have missed. Use it for
posting too. May not be the best but it sure is good for author searches. :-)

Cool!

I am pleased to read your favorable comments! Like I posted a while back, I
liked what I heard on the MP3 files, but I only checked out a couple before
deciding to buy the discs. Now I am really eager to receive them.

I ordered using a check so I don't expect I will see mine for a while
longer.

Looking forward to hearing more opinions on their music from you soon.

Okay... I too am sometimes guilty of PWI, just like my drinking buddy Cashew
<grin>

I listened to both PJ discs in the car again today (back to the same client
in Santa Monica). They sound much more cohesive today then yesterday.
Having the volume up loud helped, I think...

I'll post more on them and Clive Bunker in a couple of days.

Cheers

Thank you for the preview! I am one of those Tull fans who LOVES the softer
side of Ian, like "White Duck on your Wall" and "Wondering Aloud". If these
are the kinds of Tull sounds you were comparing the Puddle Jumpers to, then
I think I am ready to order myself my own copy.

I am also a VERY BIG Crosby, Stills and Nash fan too (I assume that is what
CSN refers to?) so that makes it sound even more appealing to me!

I really liked what I heard on the Real Audio they had, and your preliminary
impressions at least assure me that I am going to be getting some decent
quality music for my $$ from these guys. =0)

I wonder if Mr. Dez, has got his copies yet? Maybe you two can do a Siskel
and Ebert for us ;-)

Looking forward to reading your more in depth report on this band and also
on Mr. Bunker's solo effort.

Jerra.

Well, I got my copies in the mail today! I am about to head out to a New
Years Eve party so I won't be able to listen to them until tomorrow...Damn!

Sounds great. I will put in my two cents about the PJs too after I have had
a chance to listen to them for a bit.

trip.

First impressions: some Tull and Kansas mixed with CSN -- way too much CSN
IMO -- fans of quieter Tull and things that are generally nice could go for
this big time. IMO the 2nd disc is better than the first, which is as one
would hope to discover. There were at least 3 tunes on each disc that
really leapt out at me and demand replay. Some superb mandolin playing on
both discs. When I've listened some more I'll post again.

Ahh The Puddle Jumpers!

I am glad to see that people are starting to pick up on these guys! I always
figured they would catch on eventually. At least with those who appreciate
quality music.

You can't go wrong with this lot.

I have had their first album for several months and I think its great. I
would say that it is one of my top 5 favorite albums at the moment. I really
dig the packaging too! Like little mini TRI-FOLD LP. Very unusual to have
such a quality product from an indy band.

This group's music grows on you over time, so if you like it now, you should
really like it later.

Good to know you liked the second CD better than the first. I have been
meaning to order that one myself.

Rock on TULL PEOPLE!

Happy New Year.

Hi Steven,

Did you ever figure out the shouted line from the Warchild album? Did I
miss it? Curious minds need to know :-)
